If you like guitar solos, you got it on this album. i wont say this is an excellent album because some somehow libertad is missing something, that KO. oh ya axl rose. just kidding, scott is doing an excellent job fronting VR. i think most people listen to VR for the same reason i listen to VR. The reason is SLASH.
THE PRODUCT WAS GREAT! THE CD JUST RECENTLY CAME OUT AND YOU CANT GET THIS CD FOR UNDER $15; UNLESS YOU GET IT ON EBAY. THE ONLY THING I DIDNT LIKE IS I WISHED THE PLASTIC WOULD HAVE BEEN ON THE CD CASE. IT WAS A GREAT EXPERIENCE AND I HOPE TO DO IT AGAIN SOON. THANKS.
I got the chance to get the album downloaded to my iPod last Saturday - previously to the official release date - thanks to a website which anticipated the - legal - digital download format here in Brazil.
What I can say about this "Libertad" album is that most will find a bit different Velvet Revolver. Actually, it's no surprise, since every band tends to sound different every time they release a new album. This change is for good. Personally, I don't like to hear a band which always sound the same.
I think that the previous album - "Contraband" - resembles much of the Guns N'Roses style in almost every song. It was impossible not to compare and link their first album to what Slash, Duff McKagan and Matt Sorum used to do in their previous recordings.
"Libertad" sounds very nice, there is no song I actually disliked, but it is surely different. In some cases, you will find very melodic songs, like "The Last Fight" and "Gravedancer". For all of the other songs, the punch has surely changed (in my opinion), but it remains awesome. No favorite track for the time being. I have listened to the entire album just a couple of times and I am still in process of appreciating it. It's also interesting to notice that, except for some moments, Scott Weiland sounds more and more different in comparison to his STP era.
I recommend the purchase of this album. You might eventually find it simply different, but not disappointing at all.
Slash is phenomenal. This Cd is 1,000 time better than the first one. It has a little bit of everything on it. I cant wait to see them in concert !!!!!
This is a much more cohesive album and complete album than their first release. Its just to bad that Messages didn't make the CD, as it is one of the better songs VR has ever made.
It's rare that a sophomore album is better than a debut, but in Velvet Revolver's case, "Libertad" is the far superior album. Whereas the band's first effort, "Contraband," comprised merely a collection of songs — some worthy singles, the rest mindless filler — "Libertad" is a cohesive work that falls off only near the end. In other words, "Contraband" was made for the radio, but "Libertad" was made for the fans. One can listen to the entire album without pause and enjoy nearly every track.
Plus, who doesn't like saying "Libertad" with a snooty French accent!
