Simply Beautiful
Review created: 04/25/08

If you want a good opinion, this third album of Led Zeppelin is simply one of the best album of all times. This was a time when the band was getting high, jamming and creating where nobody could see them. This was a time when they really enjoyed what was happening to them in a personnal level and as a band, getting stoned lost in the woods and jamming together, living their dream, living a beautiful life... and the word BEAUTIFUL is the word that comes to my mind when I listen to this album... simply beautiful.

 Led Zeppelin #3

Volume #3 is a must for Led Zeppelin fans. Just as good as the first 2 and, in my opinion, better than the CDs that followed. It retains the powerful, innovative, and driving sound that propelled Led Zeppelin to te top of rock and roll from the late 60's to the early 80's.

Pure rock and roll, with a beautiful dash of blues makes this a real jewel. Jimmy Page is as innovative as ever and Robert Plant complements him with soulful lyrics. Throw in true giants on bass guitar and drums and you have a thing of beauty...a real keeper!!!

The Led Zeppelin Album That Time Forgot.
Review created: 07/01/03

Pros:
Great songs and a fresh direction for Led Zeppelin.

Cons:
The Roy Harper Song is rather annoying.

In 1970, Led Zeppelin was on top of the world. With the demise of The Beatles that same year, they found themselves as the number one rock band in the world. On their previous two albums, the band had displayed their talent at playing a heavy, bombastic style of blues based rock that would later become known as Heavy Metal. They had had enormous success both artistically and commercially with those albums, yet they were now at a crossroads. They could either try and repeat themselves and become AC/DC or they could follow in the lead of the aforementioned Beatles and try and branch out....

Hey, man, pass me the acoustic guitar!

Pros:
Jimmy Page's acoustic guitar work, exploration of new musical styles

Cons:
After this one, no more blues

Led Zeppelin III, released in 1970, is an important album in the Led Zeppelin catalogue, because (1) with one exception, it was the first step in the band's departure from the blues style that influenced them so much, and (2) Jimmy Page's acoustic guitar became more prominent in their work. This album has a special significance for me, because it was released while the band was on tour in America. I saw them in Nashville, Tennessee, and heard several of the cuts on this album for the first time in concert. They opened with The Immigrant Song, and it sounded otherworldly, not having heard it...

Led Zeppelin III is the RETURN OF THE JEDI of LZ albums

Pros:
Well, it's like Return of the Jedi

Cons:
See "Pros."

Disclaimer: I am completely aware that this is probably the most ridiculous review that I've ever written. You know how Pink Floyd supposedly timed Dark Side of the Moon to The Wizard of Oz? Well guess what -- the same thing happened with Led Zeppelin and the original Star Wars trilogy. Only it was the other way around. And in a completely different sense. Because Led Zeppelin I was the break-out stunner (like Star Wars), Led Zeppelin II was the slightly superior sequel (just like The Empire Strikes Back), and Led Zeppelin III is the slightly inferior cap that many people don't dig... whoa,...

Valhalla, we are coming to mellow you out

Pros:
Shows off a little bit of all their sides. Heavy, gentle, pained, consoling- very diverse.

Cons:
It's hard to downshift to this after the ear-bleeding majesty of Led Zeppelin II.

I guess it s only natural that Zeppelin, after having bashed our heads in with blues and hard rock on their first two releases, would want to show off their prowess as a folk act on album number three. It seems as if just about every rock band on the planet (with the possible exception of Deicide) secretly (or not so secretly) harbors a desire to parade around as troubadours, and it s not like Jimmy, Robert, John, John, and Rodney (the fifth member that I sometimes imagine that they had, and one whose only purpose was to dance around the stage in spandex, chains, and Crocs) hadn t already...

A New and Diverse Zeppelin Emerges on Led Zeppelin III
Review created: 04/24/03
by: MattA75 -- a member of Epinions

Pros:
diverse and rich in it's musical styles

Cons:
I've never really dug Hats off to (Roy) Harper

My brother Mark is an infinitely huge Led Zeppelin fan. This past weekend he asked me what I knew about the live material being released next month (a 3 CD set and a 2 DVD set compiling a lot of amazing material), and we got into a conversation about Zeppelin's music as a whole. It was interesting because without Mark, I don't know where my musical tastes would lie, and I certainly am not sure how much of a Led Zeppelin fan I would be. His influence on my musical tastes is huge to say the least. Zeppelin is his favorite band of all time, they are his band, no other band (Nine Inch Nails and...
