I decided to buy it because of the price. My husband loves this movie and I had been bidding on DVD's for over a month. We had lent out our DVD and it was never returned. The cost of the DVD's were way over the top so I decided to buy a VHS instead. I am pleased with it. It is in great shape and we still have our machine. Good thing.

  Intriging,
Review created: 01/02/08

I enjoyed the way the movie was presented, and that is was narrated on/off thru out the movie, it enhanced/broadend the essence of the story. I purchased it because my husband, children, and myself enjoy watching the movie often, and our original copy, came up missing thru the years, so needed to replace it in our collection. We are completly pleased with our purchase of this movie, and look forward to many years of pleasurable viewing of it.

  Last of the Dogmen--Great Movie!
Review created: 05/02/07(updated 05/02/07)

This film is an intriging, energetic, adventure that is suited for Family viewing. We have lived in the Montana setting area where the story takes place. This bold screen narration is a fantastic bundle of entertainment...with Tom Berenger, as Lewis Gates the local bounty hunter and trapper; and with Barbara Hershey, as Lillian Sloan the skeptical, expert doctor of Anthropology. They set out to prove or disprove what Gates thinks he has seen, while tracking escaped convicts into The Oxbow...living Cheyenne Indians, Dog Soldiers from a tribe thought killed out over 100 years previously. We know the Oxbow and the mysteries it shelters...various animals and plants not thought to survive there. So this is a believable plot too, making the film more interesting and exciting. As Lewis and Lillian set off in search of this incredible mystery, they begin to experience the adventure of a lifetime. The movie starts a bit slow, but picks up with great speed and flows into a breath taking adventure...sure to please the seeker of modern adventure as well as all the old west enthusiasts. Its all there: mysteries, western adventure, out-of-door thrills and scenery, Cowboys and Indians, Cops and Robbers, Love and Romance, Wit and Humor... all taking place in the setting of God's Country...the Montana Wilderness! An Excellent film for all viewers!

  The Lean-n-Mean Dogmen in Flight
Review created: 11/27/02

Pros:
An adventure that won't stop adventuring!

Cons:
I wanted to see more shots of Tom Berenger's eyes!

Don't distrust a movie merely because it failed at the box office the first time around! Sometimes a failure becomes a gem, as proven by The Last of the Dogmen, directed by Tab Murphy, a CarolCo Production in 1995. This is a story of dreams coming true, of distrusts, betrayals, hates, loves and redemption. It's a strong story that takes place in Montana, with magnificent shots of its mountainous terrain as an extra bonus. Stars

I Had to Stake Myself to the Ground to Get Through This!
Review created: 01/23/04

Pros:
Hearing the beautiful Cheyenne language spoken

Cons:
Script! Screenplay! Premise!

Last of the Dogmen came highly recommended to me by a few people and while its premise sounded too fantastic I really wanted to like this film. I heard that it treated the Cheyenne or Tsistsistas with authenticity. I wanted to like this 1995 HBO fantasy but I didn't like it and I will share my reasons. I did enjoy the usage of the Cheyenne language which was music to my ears. It was well spoken by actress Barbara Hershey as well as by the Native American actors who portrayed the various Cheyenne characters. This was a nice touch and added to what success the film had. The story and the...

Finally A Cheyenne Movie To Rave About!!
Review created: 10/31/01
by: Wanbli_Gleska -- a member of Epinions

Pros:
A true depiction of the Cheyenne and our society.

Cons:
none really

I debated about writing this because my son is related to Eugene Black Bear, plays the chief in Last of the Dogmen. This is such a great movie that I just have to tell people about it. This movie is about a bounty hunter, Lewis Gates, that tracks three escape inmates into The Oxbow when he stumbled upon evidence of Indians. He takes the evidence to an anthropologist, Lillian Gates. She says that it is a Cheyenne Dog Soldier arrow. With this arrow, it peaks their interest in the possibility of Cheyenne in The Oxbow. They decide to go into The Oxbow in search of them. Once they find them, the...

  Fantastic
Review created: 02/12/00
by: Tharp -- a member of Epinions

Pros:
great story, good acting and Berenger is a hunk

Cons:
starts out rather slow

This movie was surprisingly good. It starts out rather slow, with the sheriff in a small town going to a bounty hunter, who is his enemy for personal reasons, asking for help looking for fugitives that are hiding out in a very rugged mountainous area. The bounty hunter is played by Tom Berenger, who of course ends up going out looking for the fugitives. He ends up finding something very strange indeed. He finds evidence that the fugitives were attacked by Indians. Impossible there hasn't been Indians in this area for many many years. Berenger hooks up with an anthropologist played by Barbara..

Missing prisoners, bloody clothes, authentic Cheyenne arrow
Review created: 06/23/00
by: 4paws -- a member of Epinions

Pros:
Beautiful scenery, cinematography, Cheyenne Tribe.

Cons:
Weak plot, substandard acting.

What if there are so many things we could imagine about. Lewis Gates (Tom Berenger) goes off to track and find three criminals from the Oxbow Quadrant of the mountains of Montana. What he encounters is much different than he expected. He did not find the escapees, but bits of blood stained cloth which was left behind. He also found an Indian Arrow which captivated his interest. This eventually led him to Barbara Hershey who plays Lillian Sloan, an anthropologist with a special interest in Cheyenne Indians. The story is narrated by Wilford Brumley and he adds quite a bit of charm to the movie,.
