If she wasn't crowned the Queen of Soul immediately after her blockbuster hit Respect, Aretha Franklin claims that royal title for herself on Lady Soul. The album has an immediate effect on the listener; every song is injected with soulful goodness, be it pop, blues, or Top 40 material. It is also chock full of hits four of the songs hit the Top 20, and three made it into the Top Ten. The big hit off Lady Soul, reaching #2, was Chain of Fools, which also leads off the album. In 1968, Aretha was still a new success. The previous year was a big accomplishment for her finally getting the critical and commercial acclaims she's been working for years. I've Never Loved A Man The Way I Love You was a million seller with a big help of famous singles (if you can't figure what songs they are, then catch up on your music history man). Aretha Arrives was released the same year in 1967 and had a big single also ("Baby I Love You"), but it wasn't as big as her Atlantic debut.
