The Krups FND111 makes a nice starter espresso machine. If you aren't a heavy espresso drinker, or will use the machine only occassionally, this may be the machine for you. The low cost makes this very appealing, but for heavy use it is not ideal.
A plus for this machine is the slightly larger capacity. Many espresso machines are only 2-shot machines. This one can make a tad more. Good for serving cold espresso drinks - but again, not too many at one time.
The large dial for the frother/steam nozzle is handy. Much easier to control than the smaller switches that are on the older model Krups machines.
Drawbacks? If you are making cold drinks, or drinks that require more shots, you may have to wait for the machine to cool a bit in between brewing your espresso. You also want to make sure that the machine is done drawing/brewing before you release the espresso basket. Releasing it too soon can cause serious burns. And please, please, please make sure that when you are steaming milk, the steam nozzle is inserted into the milk before turning it on - and turn it on slowly! Otherwise you risk being seriously burned.
This is a great little machine that delivers the espresso and steams the milk for a small investment. The only drawbacks are that the milk steamer device is not long enough to reach into a deeper cup nor does it really warm the milk very well. I ended up putting the milk in the microwave in order to warm it up prior to steaming it.
For the money, this machine works flawlessly and is built to last.I decided to purchase this espresso maker after visiting my brother-in-law in Florida and enjoying a small cup each morning. Now I need to find some Tupalo honey.
I was dissapointed w this espresso maker. It doesn't make very hot coffee or strong espresso. Its steamer works just ok. I guess if your not an avid espresso drinker than this machine is perfect for light weight latte drinkers. But if your into a strong punch of espresso..this is not your machine.
I purchased the Krups Allegro FND111 Espresso Machine and Coffee Maker for my Software Engineering class. There are a total of 10 of us in the program, and we often have late-night gatherings in which we study or do homework sessions. This machine came in perfect not only for the late night sessions, but also for the rest of time we were in this class. The maker itself has been simple to use, and doesn't burn the coffee or milk (frothing for lattes, cappuchino) like some of those big-chain coffee companies tend to do. At such an affordable price, I really would rather have this machine than some expensive, larger machine. It makes about 2 (small) cups if you make just straight espresso at one time, which is plenty for 3 or so lattes. I would definitely recommend this to anyone!
For all the pump style espresso machines I have tried (and payed for), I always go back to the good ole Krups steamer when I finally get fed up with wasting time and energy with the too little, too much, plugging up and just plain tempormental pump machines. Of course, although the flavor may be lacking slightly, there is definetly more consistance and control with better frothing and much easier cleaning of parts. The Krups Allegro FND111 can be purchased for a great price and is just fine for it's size and power. All Caffenated in Utah!
Seems smaller and more fragile than other Krupps machines I've owned in the past. Works fine, but there's that element of style that it just doesn't even try to touch.
