I decided to buy it because I needed a new computer anyway and bought them both around same time...my friend has the Kodak 3 in 1 and I fell in love with it as soon as I saw hers! Started looking on ebay and got a good price.
I love how easy it is to set up and use. I have had my HP for almost 5 years and have read alot of good reviews for Kodak. Loved their cameras once. Decided to buy this one for my home to be able to work from home if needed when needed. Plus ink isn't that expensive.
Best Ink-Jet Printer I've ever owned. Simple to use and produces Great Pictures. Ink seems to last. I've printed 125 pictures taken on my vacation and still it has plenty ink. Ink is inexpensive which is a plus. Don't care for the thin Kodak paper so I'll continue with the Canon for my 4x6 prints. Canon paper is twice as thick. Some people may like the thinner Kodak paper. The printer printed both without a problem.
Upgrading from a 3 year old all-in-one HP printer (HP PSC 2410), I wasn't sure what to expect with this printer. Man, had I been missing out...
Setup was very easy, as the included instructions were surprisingly easy to follow. The user interface is very nice, easy to understand (very straight forward). The features are great. The built in 4x6 photo deck is very, very easy to use; simply push it in to engage it. No other settings to configure. It is also nice to have 3 Speed Dial buttons for faxing. The scanner's glass is also surprisingly large, which proves handy for 8.5x11 + coping/scanning. The standby feature is nice as well.
The speed ("Regular" quality) is satisfactory; it is quite comparable with my previous 2410. However, when doing 10 or more "Draft" quality prints, the speed is amazing! There are no imperfections in these prints either...
The sound also impressed me. Again, coming from the HP 2410, the obnoxious noises I was used to. But on the 5500, the sound is EXTREMELY quiet, in my opinion. Even on [fast] "Draft" quality prints, there is barely any noise.
Overall, this is a great printer that easily earns a "5/5".
This is by far the best printer I have purchased so far...It prints a little slow, but the quality of print makes up for the speed.Once you start using it, it is very user friendly..It used more ink during the setup procedure than it has printing...I wish I had purchased kodak originally.
Greetings all, Setup was easy, just a 30 minute call to tech support and got a person that spoke English despite is being in South America. We did a hard reset, did the scan and it works nicely. I did the firmware update as suggested on other sites. Also did the software upgrade for the easyshare gallery. Only have the unit for 3 days, got the right photo paper, printed pictures, 100% better that the Kodak docking station printer. It faxed nicely and copied also. Have not tried the scan feature as of yet. Now the big test will the Kodak ink and how long it lasts despite the lower cost of their ink system.
Well the fact that the ink is dirt cheap and last twice as long and that i can print my photo's at lab quality. It totally made this printer worth every penny. It's Kodak... Its a name brand... I would definitely recommend this to anyone who is sick of paying a lot of money on ink toner and getting crappy quality.
