This coffee maker produces a very nice tasting cup of coffee. You do, however, need to preheat the thermal carafe with hot water prior to brewing. I guess it stands to reason though, it is the same principal as a thermos...if you don't preheat them, the cold metal causes the coffee to cool off. I tried the auto on feature last night and preheated the pot with hot water. I wasn't sure whether or not it would keep the carafe warm enough through the night to keep the coffee from cooling off this morning as it brewed, but when I got up and poored a cup....it was great! So I guess the secret to this maker is to make sure you preheat. I love the flavor of the coffee, and the convenience of it being made before I get up. I would reccomend this to anyone who loves good coffee and doesn't mind a little time preparation in getting a great cup.
We've been looking for a GOOD quality coffee maker for some time. Past models last about a year, then leak. Originally looking for another "under the cabinet" model, but saw this counter top Kitchen Aide model-KCM515 - many easy to use "bells & whistles", looks good, easy to clean & fill, and doesn't dribble when poured- a BIG plus! Makes an excellent cup of coffee. Has a carafe so no burnt taste from excessive heating- keeps piping hot for over 3 hours, hot enough to drink for at least 4 hours. Carafe/coffee maker tailored to European volume- about 2 cups short of USA standards- so a pot doesn't last long in this house. Very happy with purchase. Coffee maker purchased "used- in excellent condition".
