To be honest I truthfully think that Kingdom Hearts is just naturally one of those games that people are skeptical about and are afraid to try. This is true if you are a hardcore RPG gamer or if you just like to try them from time to time. I know I didn't even try till years after it came out despite the hype. The reason is simply because it's more Disney than Squaresoft.
Let's face it; playing a Disney game hurts some of our macho gamer egos. That being said let me be the first to tell you that THERE IS A LOT OF DISNEY in this game. Trust me, you never forget the fact that Donald and Goofy as well as a lot of other Disney characters are by your side. However this is slightly offset by the appearance of lots of familiar faces from Squaresoft's Final Fantasy series.
It's the appearance of these characters that has made the game playable for many. I know the thought of just seeing Sephiroth again made me want to play the game and I do not regret it. Kingdom Hearts plays like a Squaresoft RPG, looks like a Squaresoft RPG, and sounds like a Squaresoft RPG, so what can go wrong? The answer to that question is not much can go wrong actually.
I found very few things that I dislike about this game, and trust me I am a critic. The graphics were right on the mark and wonderfully done. The music was very compelling. The combat styles and leveling systems were great. The other things that I had a slight problem with were the fact that how to use abilities wasn't really explained well in the instruction manual and the sometimes dreadfully horrible camera angles and controls. However when you look at the entirety of the game and the fact that the horrible camera angles and controls don't occur too often, I can live with it.
As far as replay ability is concerned I played the heck out of it. I did everything you can do including beating Sephiroth, which was well worth it in my opinion. I would say this is a good 50 hours well spent if you pace yourself. If you're a Disney fan you will love this game. If you're a Final Fantasy or Squaresoft fan you will love this game. Heck if you're an RPG fan you will probably love this game. With the price drop and it becoming one of the Greatest Hits collection at $19.99 you can't go wrong.
This is one of the few RPG's that the ending actually made me cry. I actually felt like I got to know Donald and Goofy.....did I just say that out loud? But seriously, if you don't buy it for its Disney and Squaresoft ties at least get it because it has a star studded voice cast. I mean BILLY ZANE is the bad guy for crying out loud. You can't go wrong with Billy Zane.
In conclusion, this game is at least worth trying but it will stay as a part of my permanent collection. It has around 10 worlds from an assortment of Disney films and has a nice feel to it. This is an RPG for everyone and will touch the hearts of everyone who plays it.

As a huge RPG fan, I replay my games more than once over time. It's always nice to go back to an old favorite and replay it, as the experience always changes. With Kingdom Hearts, as soon as it was finished, I wanted to replay it immediately. I have never been so taken by a game before, it's absolutely astonishing. It affects so many different aspects of people. It will thrill the most ardent die-hard RPG game fan; bring you back to your childhood with endearing and well-loved characters from Disney classics; touch your heart with it's romance, love, friendship, and the power of good over evil. I had no idea what it was going to be like when I bought it, and I urge you not to read too much into before purchasing it. JUST BUY IT. You WILL love it. You WILL enjoy every minute of this epic and groundbreaking masterpiece.
The graphics are stunning and original, and set the backdrop for this unforgettable story. The main character, Sora, is endearing and instantly likeable, and the story of how he and his friends Riku and Kairi are separated by the forces of evil, and how he struggles to reunite them with the help of new pals Donald and Goofy, is stirring, touching, and ultimately unforgettable. The graphics, stellar voice casting, and superb storyline combine to give you an experience you will never forget. Of course, Disney characters abound, over 100 fo them. Don't think for a minute these are all cheerful, harmless, boring additions used simply as a marketing ploy, as they all play integral and unique roles in the story. Sora and his pals help certain characters with their own particular stories, while receiving assistance for their own in return. There are villains as well as classic beloved characters, and each setting is appropriate and unique for each confrontation. There are also tons of familiar characters from Squaresoft, especially the Final Fantasy series, and for any avid RPG fan it's like a walk down memory lane.
Sora and his pals use weapons, armor, magic, and accessories to defeat the many forces of evil that stand in the way of reuniting him and his friends. These modes are relatively simple to use, and you don't have to get bogged down with an endless and dizzying display of possibilities to equip and use these items. The game is intuitive, allowing you to proceed without having to agonize over what you have to do next. A journal also helps you keep track, which was handy. The game is also full of side quests that are fulfilling and lets you get more out of the story than you already are (hard to believe). The mode of travel between worlds, the gummi ship, is the only aspect of the game that I thought could use improvement. The customization is awkward and poorly explained.
In sum, this is a game that anyone who possesses a PS2 should own. I can't imagine anyone not being drawn into the engaging story, lush and unmatched graphics, straightfoward game play, and hundreds of familiar and entertaining characters. Whether you're six or sixty, you're bound to love it and will play it again and again while wishing for the next installment.

Fun and engaging game for children and adultsThis is a great game for both children and adults. I think it's great that the creators of final fantasy and disney teamed together to create this game. I recommend this game to anyone interested in RPG's. I have 9 year old twin girls and the love this game. I would, also, suggest getting the guide to help you through some of the game.

Great used game, grandson loves it.It is a hot game for kids 8 to 16, my grandson really loves it and we have had not one problem with it. Shipping was a good value, because people are starting to inflate their shipping costs and some are redicilious.

I genuinely bought this as a lark -- the seller offered a deal on shipping and handling, and I had heard of it. I thought it might be fun to play with the Disney characters. The first time I played it, I fell in love with the game!
Basically, you play as Sora, a young teen whose world is torn apart by the heartless and whose best friends vanish before his eyes. In the process, he gains a key-sword and is transported to another world where he finds out that he has the chance to fight the forces that destroyed his world and to find his friends. In that world, he meets up with Goofy and Donald Duck who are in search of the key-sword and it's bearer and their king (Mickey, of course) who has sent them on this quest in a note he left them before disappearing. And then you travel to the worlds of the great Disney Characters.
I'm not very far along in the game, but I love it! It's great fun with a great story and a great soundtrack. Play is pretty easy, but they did make it a little harder by making the jump button different from most games, so I find myself attacking when I mean to jump. I will not say that the game is easy, but then I'm pretty new to these types of games, so it may just be that I'm not that good! Regardless, I love this game, and I recommend it to anyone who enjoys role-playing or action games.

I bought this game because I came across it on eBay for such a great pice. My daughter wanted it badly when it came out,I forgot about it, years went by, she's 13 now and flipped when I was able to get KH2. She wanted the first one more after all these years!
She is more than pleased with the game! It lived up to all her expectations!
I am so glad I was able to get this game for her and double her fun w/ the 2nd one.
If your child is a Disney fanatic, and is excited to have something new to do. You will not be disappointed being able to keep them entertained without violence (it's self-defense fighting) and bad influence from video games.

I bought this game mainly because of the Disney chracters. I've never played Final Fantasy, so I didn't really know any of the non-Disney characters. I also heard that this game is really good, so I bought it. I love the characters, and the Disney worlds. The only thing I don't like about the game is that you don't have a goal i.e. there's not something saying "find certain character" or "search for certain item". I to go look at a walkthrough online a few times because I had no idea where I was supposed to go or what I was supposed to do. However, some people do like this concept (like my friend) and if you are one of those people, I would definetly recommend this game for you! And if you don't like that kind of concept (like me), use a walkthrough (neoseeker is an amazing site).

I wanted to get this game because I got the second one and I liked it. I played the first one before but I never got that into it so I wantted to get more into it. I didn't realy like the graphics at first but I got used to it. I like fighting bosses because I like getting chalenged with hard things'. I like going to the gift shops' and buying upgrades for SORA, DONALD, and GOOFY what my favorite thing was being at DESTINY ISLANDS.

This is second copy of this game that we've owned. Our kids play it for hours on end and have beaten it multiple time and just keep coming back for more.
We like it because of the Disney Characters it has in it and the vast area of play over multiple familiar and new worlds. While the game consists of almost all animated fighting, there is no blood and gore at all. And since the heros (Sora, Donald, Mickey, Goofey and multiple other Disney heroes) are fighting to rid the worlds of the heartless...well, not many things good can come without some confict.
An excellent game...would recommend to all!

Bought this for my son at his request. According to him, it's really fun and lived up to everything he had heard about it. The battles are challenging and not easy to win, but also not impossible either. This makes it fun to play for a long time. He's had it for a few months now and is still not tired of it.

Ever wondered what it would be like if Final Fantasy characters and Disney Characters all shared the same universe? Nope? Me neither. But this is exactly what this game does. You can find fan boy's favorites like Cloud from FF7 series or Squall from FF8 series along with Goofy and Donald and the Little Mermaid. What is interesting is that the game delivers. Both Disney and Final Fantasy fans will find something to like here. The story involves the main protagonist Sora traveling to different Disney-themed worlds in search of his friends. Soon Sora's goals expend into stopping the the evil Heartless and saving all the worlds. The story isn't exactly living poetry, but it isn't bad either. The combat in the game is in real time. The battles do get repetitive, however, you'll spend most of your time moving around and pressing the X button a lot. You can also jump during battles to attack your enemies in the air or summon Disney characters to your aid (like Dumbo, Genie, etc.). There are Bonus Bosses here too.... you'll finally be able to settle that score with Sephiroth with a little help from Goofy and Donald.
Bottom Line: This is a good action RPG with relatively high production values. Don't expect to find a deep story or combat system here though.

Kingdom HeartsI love a good RPG. So, nturaly, I hated the idea of this game. Most of "my games" can't be played till the kids are in bed. Let's face it, hack and slash a bunch of zombies while kids are up and you'll wind up with a bed full of kids! These baddies are Disney enough that kids are happy to see gone and not have nightmares about! they are also SquareSoft enough to be a challenge! The graphics are awsome. The music is perfect for the game(doesn't distract from game, but sticks in your head at work)! This is the first Rpg I Can honestly say i didn't hate something about the main character! You Atually Want to help this guy! The disney elements add to the game, rather than detract from it(as I feared it would). All in all this is a great game, Especailly if your a Disney fan. Brings back some fond memories for us old timers! lol
