Kill'em All - Metallica (Cassette 1995)

  Metallica Sought and Destroyed

Pros:
fast, heavy, raw metal

Cons:
still had some growth to achieve

It would be a few years before they hit megastar status, but one of metal's biggest names emphatically made their first mark in 1983. The future held massive hits, world tours, lineup changes, and style changes. But no Metallica fan should ignore the band's original sound: their debut album Kill 'Em All was loud, raw, and fast as hell. Though not the band's original lineup, the quartet that made Kill 'Em All was: James Hetfield: rhythm guitar Kirk Hammett: lead guitar Cliff Burton: bass Lars Ulrich: drums This is Metallica's most unpolished album, but that raw sound is what makes it so...

  The Quartet of Deliverance Rides...

Pros:
some absolute Metallica classics

Cons:
along with some forgettable tracks

Pity the album that just isn't quite as good as so many say it is... Such is the case for Metallica and their 1983 debut album Kill 'Em All. Seen by many as the first truly influential speed metal record, there are no doubt times over the course of the ten tracks present on the record that high praise like that is well deserved. What people don't want to seem to want to talk about though, is that there are a decent amount of forgettable moments as well. But as with most debut albums, that is to be expected. Since on debut records, bands are still in the midst of finding themselves as a band,..

  The Best Metallica Album
Review created: 02/14/04
by: the_clansman -- a member of Epinions

Pros:
Metallica in their rawest form.

Cons:
Often Overlooked

When people get asked what their favorite Metallica album is, you expect one of the usual supects- Ride the lightning, Master of Puppets, And Justice For All and even the Black Album. Their first album, Kill 'em All is the most often overlooked of their early work. A lot of people complain about the weak production of this cd..... as opposed to what, Ride the Lightning? St. Anger? Personally, I think some of the best albums ever have been horrible produced, like Bleach by Nirvana. Kill 'em all is my favorite Metallica CD, because it is their most youthful and energetic. This CD had a certain..

  Screaming murder
Review created: 04/22/05
by: bangj -- a member of Epinions

Pros:
Classic Metallica, great guitar playing

Cons:
A few average songs, dated somewhat.

Metallica s pivotal debut album was released in July 1983, an uneventful month in an unremarkable year. Rock s big guns weren t doing anything special: Kiss and Black Sabbath had completely lost the plot and the bands from the New Wave of British Heavy Metal, once a vibrant force and an acknowledged influence on Metallica, had exhausted its limited supply of ideas. Little did they know, something very special was about to appear. Metallica could not of appeared at a better time. All the metal bands like Motorhead, Venom and discharge were more or less doing the same thing and there were a...

  Metallica's Earliest Days
Review created: 08/30/01
by: cripper -- a member of Epinions

Pros:
Great guitar playing, solid bass, good drums, classic speed metal

Cons:
Poorly written lyrics, screaming seems to replace singing, poor recording quality, lack of musical diversity

Being the Metallica fan that I am, I felt that I always had to get Kill 'Em All. I haven't heard much about this album. I did not even know any of the songs in this album, but despite all this, I still decided to go out and purchase this album. However, I did know one thing about this album before my purchase. I knew that the original title of this album was supposed to be Metal Up Your A** (anyone can figure that out). However, there were too many complaints about this vulgar title from the music industry. So Metallica, being the rebels they were in 1983, changed the title to Kill 'Em All. I.
