Album notes
Metallica: James Hetfield (vocals, guitar); Kirk Hammett (guitar); Cliff Burton (bass); Lars Ulrich (drums).
Originally released on Megaforce.
Occasionally one album can be pinpointed as the turning point in a musical genre. KILL 'EM ALL is one such album and, boy, did the heavy metal genre need a transfusion of new blood. Herein trad metal was stripped of its late-70s pomposity and reduced to its base element of brutal sonic force. The rhythm section of Burton and Ulrich do a masterful job, as does rhythm guitar ace and vocalist James Hetfield, on a set that owes a debt to punk as much as to Iron Maiden and Judas Priest. The phantasmagorical allusions are still there in the lyrics, as are some long-winded guitar solos, but otherwise KILL 'EM ALL promised a creative rebirth for hard rock.

  Metallica indeed rocks
Review created: 05/12/08

The disc is is definitely a classic rock cd. The only let down is the fact that "Am I Evil" is not on this version. As for the cd condition itself, well now that is the worst part at least two songs have skips in them and the case is makeshift. Of course over all I am content with the purchase.

What could you say about KILL EM' ALL
Review created: 02/06/08

Awesome!!!!!!!! Just wish Metallica would have re-recorded & re-released it when they hit it big because the original production sound doesn't do these songs any justice.

  Must have metal CD
Review created: 08/17/07

This is by far my favorite Metallica CD - it rips from start to finish, the production is raw and sounds exactly like it should - 4 kids who would soon be metal monsters playing in the garage and having fun. They shred, but it hadn't hit them yet. I still love their other stuff, but there is something about a firts release when a band has something to prove an dgives it their all. Like I said - you gotta have this one in the collection.

Metal Forever,
Mark

Ahhh YES! The mother of metal RIGHT HERE!

How can you NOT love this CD? This is the very best of early Matallica right here folks. It simply does not get harder than this. Every song on the disc is a FANTASTIC listen. The bass is quite heave on it. Gotta love it! I don't really have a "favorite song" persay. It is just too damn hard to pick a favorite. So it is best to let the mother play. And let it play LOUD!

This is THE BEST CD put out by Metallica in my opinion. If you want to tear off the knob and crank up some tunes, I suggest that you get ready for a full metal over-load.

  Kill 'Em All-Metallica
Review created: 01/07/07

I am 42 years old, and I STILL remember the first time I heard this album. I was working at a McDonald's at the time and a fellow co-worker brought it in to work one day and decided to play it when we were on our lunch break. Of course, it was on a cassette tape!!! Anyways, at the time, I was a local DJ who played only soul/R&B/rap and have never really listened to rock. This tape blew me away!!! What the hell was this noise and when was it going away?!?!?!? Well, it was Metallica and it was the beginning of a beautiful friendship!!! I still played Cameo, Thw Whispers, Bar-Kays, Earth Wind & Fire, Rick James, Kurtis Blow, Sugar Hill Gang, etc, but when I started mixing Metallica, AC/DC, Black Sabbath and Van Halen with them, it was absolutely the best of both worlds for me!!!! Metallica kicked ass, and the rest is history!!!! If you've got a collection of rock 'n roll music WITHOUT Metallica, then YOUR COLLECTION SUCKS!!! End of story!!!

I love the fact that this is an original 1983 copy of this disk. Also that it is in mint condition! It feels nice to be able to trust a seller when buying an item like this, that their description is exactly as stated. This cd ROCKS!
It's always been a favorite of mine, and now I own it again!!!

  MetallicA- UNSURPASED!
Review created: 06/01/06

The first album of the top-selling greatest heavy metal band of all time. No other metal band has out-sold or had as many number one hit singles as Metallica with close to 200 million albums sold worldwide and the 7th biggest selling act in American music history! There was not a mid-grade album among their first 5 recorded records...

  Metal Up Your Ass
Review created: 02/27/06
by:

Metal Up Your Ass was the original title of the album , but the record company didnt accept it because of the containing words . Anyway i love this album it is one my favorites albums from Metallica , if you`re into thrash metal you would this album songs like Metal Militia , Hit The Lights , Seek And Destroy would take you places .. , also.. it has a the Anesthesia Bass solo (Pulling Teeth ) where you can see Cliff performing an extraordinary bass solo (the man was a monster on bass may him rest in peace ) , the only thing is does lack is the quality of the recording being kind of an underground record and considering its time , anyway its surely deserves a 5point rating

  Metallica Sought and Destroyed
Review created: 05/13/04
by: PacManY2J-- a member of Epinions and Top Reviewer in Music

Pros:
fast, heavy, raw metal

Cons:
still had some growth to achieve

It would be a few years before they hit megastar status, but one of metal's biggest names emphatically made their first mark in 1983. The future held massive hits, world tours, lineup changes, and style changes. But no Metallica fan should ignore the band's original sound: their debut album Kill 'Em All was loud, raw, and fast as hell. Though not the band's original lineup, the quartet that made Kill 'Em All was: James Hetfield: rhythm guitar Kirk Hammett: lead guitar Cliff Burton: bass Lars Ulrich: drums This is Metallica's most unpolished album, but that raw sound is what makes it so...

  The Quartet of Deliverance Rides...
Review created: 09/05/04
by: MattA75 -- a member of Epinions

Pros:
some absolute Metallica classics

Cons:
along with some forgettable tracks

Pity the album that just isn't quite as good as so many say it is... Such is the case for Metallica and their 1983 debut album Kill 'Em All. Seen by many as the first truly influential speed metal record, there are no doubt times over the course of the ten tracks present on the record that high praise like that is well deserved. What people don't want to seem to want to talk about though, is that there are a decent amount of forgettable moments as well. But as with most debut albums, that is to be expected. Since on debut records, bands are still in the midst of finding themselves as a band,..

  The Best Metallica Album
Review created: 02/14/04
by: the_clansman -- a member of Epinions

Pros:
Metallica in their rawest form.

Cons:
Often Overlooked

When people get asked what their favorite Metallica album is, you expect one of the usual supects- Ride the lightning, Master of Puppets, And Justice For All and even the Black Album. Their first album, Kill 'em All is the most often overlooked of their early work. A lot of people complain about the weak production of this cd..... as opposed to what, Ride the Lightning? St. Anger? Personally, I think some of the best albums ever have been horrible produced, like Bleach by Nirvana. Kill 'em all is my favorite Metallica CD, because it is their most youthful and energetic. This CD had a certain..

  Screaming murder
Review created: 04/22/05
by: bangj -- a member of Epinions

Pros:
Classic Metallica, great guitar playing

Cons:
A few average songs, dated somewhat.

Metallica s pivotal debut album was released in July 1983, an uneventful month in an unremarkable year. Rock s big guns weren t doing anything special: Kiss and Black Sabbath had completely lost the plot and the bands from the New Wave of British Heavy Metal, once a vibrant force and an acknowledged influence on Metallica, had exhausted its limited supply of ideas. Little did they know, something very special was about to appear. Metallica could not of appeared at a better time. All the metal bands like Motorhead, Venom and discharge were more or less doing the same thing and there were a...

  Metallica's Earliest Days
Review created: 08/30/01
by: cripper -- a member of Epinions

Pros:
Great guitar playing, solid bass, good drums, classic speed metal

Cons:
Poorly written lyrics, screaming seems to replace singing, poor recording quality, lack of musical diversity

Being the Metallica fan that I am, I felt that I always had to get Kill 'Em All. I haven't heard much about this album. I did not even know any of the songs in this album, but despite all this, I still decided to go out and purchase this album. However, I did know one thing about this album before my purchase. I knew that the original title of this album was supposed to be Metal Up Your A** (anyone can figure that out). However, there were too many complaints about this vulgar title from the music industry. So Metallica, being the rebels they were in 1983, changed the title to Kill 'Em All. I.
