One of the criticisms that is bandied about whenever the blues is discussed is the idea of authenticity. This idea is usually brought up as a way to disparage another s ability to play the blues, or their efforts to do so. He/she is not an authentic blues player. He/she never suffered for the blues. He/she can t deliver the blues like XYZ can. Few artists have heard this said about their work more often than guitarist Eric Clapton [b. 1945-]. Part of this is due to his success, of course. And, some of it is due to his delivery. For a long period of time EC was thought to not have the stuff to.

Eric Clapton aka "God" is probably one of the best musicians of all times. Although his music quality has not been consistent at all times, his guitar virtuosity is beyond debate. And when Clapton goes back to his blues roots, you understand why he is called "God". I have all of Clapton's CDs. However, the best one among them is Just One Night, a double live CD from, I think, the 1979 concert in Budokan theatre in Japan. The music is incredible. If you like guitar and guitar solos, take notice: Double Trouble has the best guitar solo that ever existed. You really can't stand still, and cringe.
