Jesus Freak ROCKS!
Review created: 04/13/08

This is hands down one of the best albums ever. DC Talk's style on this album is very unique. I would call it rock music with influences from a bit of hip-hop, R&B, and alternative. Listen to it a few times, you'll love it forever!

As a trio of talent, DC Talk has created an amazing musical masterpiece, with heart-felt songs about being colour-blind, steadfast and forgiving.

This was an album I had some 10-12 years ago, and my 3 pre-teen sons like other DC Talk I have, so I got this for them. They love especially the title track, "Jesus Freak"

I had the CD before, but had given it away. I love the edge the music has, with a "no-holds-bard" element that says, "Yeah, I believe in jesus. What about it!?!"

During the Christmas season, I had lost my dad's favorite CD. I wanted to suprise him with a brand new CD because this CD is a decade old, so i looked on Ebay and found DC Talk, Jesus Freak. It was an awesome price and it was still sealed in the wrapping. With-in 3-4 days it was at my house. I love this CD and my dad is very thank-you to have it too.

 Best ever
Review created: 08/13/06

They hadn't done it before, and they haven't done it since. This was simply THE album for dc Talk. Packing three very different singers' voices into so many musical styles (in one song!) makes this truly genious. I can't say anything bad about any song on this CD, but the climax has to be the title track, "Jesus Freak". This is a classic!

Day By Day, Jesus Freak keeps me In The Light
Review created: 10/31/04
by: flamepillar -- a member of Epinions

Pros:
A superb pop/rock album by all standards.

Cons:
Pointless skits, a bit short.

As the innocence of childhood faded and the relentless responsibility of adulthood took over, I found myself putting a lot of my childhood routines away. One of those routines was going to church on Sundays. But sometimes there are ways to compensate. And when dc Talk's Jesus Freak dropped out of the sky and into my CD player, I found myself making a habit out of listening to it every Sunday. Far as that goes, though, I was listening to it all week. Some might say that a Christian rock album is a sad excuse for a substitute, but I wonder if the very act of going to church itself is not in its..

Pros:
Almost every song is classic.

Cons:
Interludes can get annoying; frequent shifts in musical style are confusing at first.

The Freaks Become a Legend (Classic Christian Albums, Part II)
Review created: 08/02/06
by: beekd91-- a member of Epinions and Top Reviewer in Music

Pros:
The most famous Christian album ever, and deservedly so. Borders on flawless.

Cons:
In the words of Drew Carey: "They're like the Cleveland Browns: they just don't matter."

The miniseries returns: with my second part of my Classic Christian Albums series, I examine what is arguably the quintessential Christian rock record. Without this, Christian rock may never be in the public eye. Or at least it would have taken longer. It went double-platinum. The band released one more record, and then seemingly split up. I m talking about one of the greatest albums of all time: dc Talk s rock/contemporary/rap/ah-screw-the-labeling-UNIQUE album, Jesus Freak. Full of great musicianship and thoughtful lyrics, this album is still as good as when it was first released. The...

Crafting a good Christian pop song 101.
Review created: 07/08/02
by: Stairway2Drew-- a member of Epinions and Advisor in Music

Pros:
Strong, honest Christian pop-rock.

Cons:
"Like It, Love It, Need It"; interludes.

If you grew up in my household at the same time that I did, there were two styles of music that you would have been bombarded with---country and gospel. (This is, of course, discounting my later years as a member of the household, during which I added my own genre to this short span of styles---rock and roll.) To be fair, when I say gospel, I'm not talking choirs---I mean just about any record made by an identifiably Christian performer, be it Christian rock, pop, ska... even my notoriously rap-hating father would brake for a Christian rapper. I haven't been able to listen to either genre...

Pros:
EVERY song is good or better, great lyrics

Cons:
You have to like to rock

GENRE: Contemporary Christian, Christian Rock, Pop, almost alternative WHO SHOULD BUY: Any one who appreciates rock based Christian music-young and old alike dc talk has come a long way. I believe their first album came out in 1995 (self-titled). It was total rap. Great lyrics but those who tend to listen to contemporary Christian probably wouldn't buy it. I believe this is their third effort (after Free At Last). This is a phenomenal album still. There are 10 songs on this CD and five are stellar, five are pretty good. I think everyone who appreciates rock-based Christian music should buy...
