Jeremy Is Just The Beginning On This Single

Pros:
Three great songs, including the wonderful Yellow Ledbetter

Cons:
Not long enough and some unfortunate editing

Back in 1992, the music landscape was changing. Fake hair bands like Poison and Warrant were quickly becoming tired and boring and a new wave of music was emerging. That style of music was dubbed grunge. The main source of grunge music was the fertile ground of Seattle. Nirvana, Soundgarden, and Pearl Jam all hailed from that region and all three were extremely influential in the movement. All of their music was fresh, powerful and loud. Nirvana had their punk roots, Soundgarden favored heavy metal and Pearl Jam sounded like the arena bands of the 70 s. While Nirvana had the mega hit in...

When I spoke in class, I got detention. When Jeremy did, he got a song.

Pros:
The, uh, whole thing.

Cons:
"Jeremy" is slightly truncated.

It's emblazoned across the CD-single for Pearl Jam's biggest bona fide hit: "Not to be confused with more expensive (identical) import version." A lesson, PJ fans and amateur PJ fans: don't be duped by the friggin' import singles. They'll kill your wallet. Lesson completed. Now, "Jeremy" was Pearl Jam's breakout, of sorts, in 1992. The song, plucked from their debut album Ten, was the only song they filmed a proper video for. (In 1998, Todd McFarlane animated a clip for "Do the Evolution" from Yield, but it featured none of the band members.) The haunting clip became extremely popular---...

Pros:
Three fantastic songs, showing all facets of Pearl Jam

Cons:
We've all heard "Jeremy" too much

Daddy didn't give attention Oh, to the fact that mommy didn't care King Jeremy the Wicked Ruled his world I can remember the first time I heard "Jeremy". I was 12 years old. A good friend whose musical tastes I respected greatly was telling me all about a new band called Pearl Jam, and he had their first album, Ten. After hearing the brutal "Once", the incredibly intense "Evenflow", and the soaring, cathartic "Alive", I begged, pleaded, and begged some more until he finally relented and let me borrow it for the night. I promptly taped it. Listening to it on the bus ride to school the next day.

Pros:
Yellow Ledbetter, Footsteps, Jeremy, lol

Cons:
None

Considering Pearl Jam's new cd just came out yesterday, I cannot review that yet, so instead I will review The Jeremy Single. One of the original Pearl Jam songs released in 1991, Jeremy is the 2nd single made by this legendary band after the Alive Single, and believe me the Alive Single doesn't compare to this. What This Is The Jeremy single was released in 1992, and as I said earlier, is the 2nd single ever released by Pearl Jam. This cd consists of three songs, all great. The first is off the album Ten the first album released by the band. The other two songs were brand new at the time,...

The Pearl Jam Singles Collection: Jeremy

Pros:
Shows the diversity of Pearl Jam in only 3 songs. Great B-sides.

Cons:
Strange edit on some versions of Jeremy.

Pearl Jam were starting to gather quite a following by the time they released their third single, "Jeremy". I'm sure the band didn't realize, at the time, that it would be the song that broke them into the mainstream pop world. After all, the song itself is quite basic musically. Built around Jeff Ament's simple, yet ominous bass line and chiming guitars, the song's beauty is in it's lyrics. Penned by Eddie Vedder, the song chronicles a youth's descent into suicidal rage. The song is so emotionally powerful and dramatic, it's amazing that the band nearly rejected the song in it's earliest...
