  Musical Gothic Thrill-Ride!
Review created: 05/04/08

The Jekyll & Hyde musical was much better than I had expected. One would think that trying to make a musical out of something as dark and overdone as Jekyll & Hyde would flop like a pancake, but in reality the musical is quite beautiful and enjoyable. Frank Wildhorn's music is always beautiful, but his composition skills shine in this masterpiece of gothic spectacle. Linda Eder's performance is the most memorable and most powerful of her career. The recurring song "Facade" is good almost to the point of catchy. I recommend the movie version too. The Concept Album is always a good version of the soundtrack also. It has the song Bring on the Men sung by Linda Eder: Best. Song. Of. The. Musical.

  It gave me chills...

This musical has had many men in the lead role, but none I've heard is better than this original cast recording. I absolutely love this CD, first hearing a clip of it on a Tony show, losing my copy, and loved this show so much that I was willing to buy it twice. "Good and Evil" gave me chills down my spine the first time I heard it. I highly recommend this musical to those who like the Sondheim musicals and some of the more obscure broadway shows.

Jekyll and Hyde - Powerful and Moving
Review created: 05/07/01

Pros:
The music is powerful and enticing.

Cons:
After hearing it, you'll want to see it!

I first heard the music from Jekyll and Hyde on an internet radio (I was listening to showtunes). Every time a song from this show was played, I kept checking to see which show it was and I soon noticed that the songs were from this musical. I liked the few songs that I heard and I liked them enough to buy the CD. I know it is always a gamble to buy a CD based on only a couple of songs, but this investment was more than well worth it. The music is beautiful and tells the story in a way I've never heard. If you have not seen the show, it helps to read the information in the cover of the CD as..

Pros:
Chilling and emotional music... great voices

Cons:
They left out some songs!

If you love gothic music this is a CD for you! It will literally send chills down your spine! It starts out rather slow but "Facade" you won't be able to stop listening to it. This CD will enchant you with a mix of chilling and beautiful tunes while telling a heart-breaking, tear-jerking story. One of my personal favorite songs is "Alive"-- Jekyll's first transition to the killer, Hyde. "In His Eyes" is a beautiful piece with wonderful harmony you'll listen to over and over again. I recommend listening to samples of those two songs before purchasing. The only problem I really had with this CD.
