  Great Classic
Review created: 06/15/08

Pros- fun all around, never get tired of making new monsters and growing them.

Cons- difficult controls, story some-what repetitive.

jade cocoon is one of my all time favorites, the gameplay is very addicting. raising your monsters and merging them to make cool looking hybrids is never boring. even though the story is a bit on the lax side, it is sufficient compared to the fun you have while playing. controls are a bit difficult but once you get used to them, you wont notice the difference. overall great game! a classic!

  Make Your Own Monster
Review created: 07/04/07

Jade Cocoon is an all around fun RPG. It is not too difficult for a first timer, and the huge variety of monsters you can create to fight with you gives it great replay value. The story line is okay, if a bit confusing at some points, but game play is easy to figure out and it has one of the best battle music scores I've ever heard...you don't get tired of it. You only get to fight with one character at a time (the main character or one of his three minions) so it is challenging because you have to plan well so you don't lose one of your characters (you get them back at the end of the battle). You chose what monsters to combine to give your minions the traits you desire, and this can be challenging because the bosses can change elemental attribute. Since there are four elements (earth, air, fire & water) and you only have three minions, you need to make wise decisions as to what characteristice you give them. The final boss changes between elements, so the battle can be long. You also get plenty of second chances. The only annoying thing is mastering the movement of your main character. Try making him run backward! *wink* I bought the game because I had played it when it first came out, and remembered it was not too challenging and not too easy...a good, clean, fun game.

I'd say this game set the standard

Now this is a game I REALLY enjoyed. I'm always a fan of the kinds of games with customization, and this one hit it off good. Graphics are a little blah for its time, but the gameplay more than made up for it. Whenever I pop this game in I still play it hours on end. Collecting monsters, playin a little mix-n-match, collect more monsters, rinse and repeat. Fun game, pretty hard to find as well. 4/5 I'm sure every will enjoy this game.

  My first disappointing RPG
Review created: 12/01/01
by: swanton00 -- a member of Epinions

Pros:
Monster Building

Cons:
Not much story, repeative

First off, I would like to state that this is my first time writng for 2 months (october 5). Now to the game. The title basicly says. I don't remember another RPG I didn't like besides Phantasy Star 3 for the genesis. Now you probably say; "There has got to be atleast one good thing about the game..." it's true. The monster raising. Growing the levels, merging them to get stronger and new specials. Besides that, the game lacks story, change, and length. Story SPOILERS AHEAD! Not much to say. Short and simple. Your dad was a cocoon master (monster raiser) and never returned from the forest....

  Sleeper Hit of the Year.
Review created: 02/04/00

Pros:
Monster aspects of the game.

Cons:
Story's kinda weak, no affinity towards main character, slow graphics scenes can't be advanced.

During May the Crave Entertainment guys made waves at E3. Despite being in the back of the Convention Center, their booth was attracting a lot of attention because they had some of the finest looking booth women in the Expo. While this had nothing to do with their upcoming lineup, I'd have to say I will be anticipating their booth again next E3. The point of the E3 reference is that after meeting with them, they hooked us up with a demo of Jade Cocoon, an upcoming RPG that had generated some buzz in RPG circles. I popped it in and the game was nothing like I expected. In my book, it was a...

  Wanna-Be Pok mon?
Review created: 02/27/00
by: Ingonomia -- a member of Epinions

Pros:
Good graphics, good music/sound effects

Cons:
Boring, odd controls

Sony tried hard to capture the essence of Pok mon in their role playing/action game Jade Cocoon, but it just didn't quite pan out. For starters, the beginning of the game was unbearably boring, listening to the characters go on and on. It would have been better with a little gameplay mixed into it. The idea for using actual voices, however, was a breath of fresh air to the usually mundane way of "listening" to the characters' dialect. But, despite the potential of this innovation, Sony again slowed down the game by making the voices speak too slowly. This could have been remedied by an...

  Jade Cocoon - Monster Breeding
Review created: 04/14/00
by: tprules14 -- a member of Epinions

Pros:
Good graphics, music, battling system

Cons:
A little bit strange, and I guess it is kind of similar to Pokemon

A lot of people dislike Jade Cocoon saying that it is a copy of Pokemon and a waste of time. I definitely disagree with this. It is not a copy of Pokemon. In Jade Cocoon, you can mix and match your own monsters, growing almost unlimited possibilities and traits. With Pokemon, you simply alter the abilities of different monsters, not their appearance. Jade Cocoon is a game like no other. It is strange, I will say, but it can still be fun if you love RPGS. I myself am a lover of all RPGs and therefore I like this game because of that particular style. However, Jade Cocoon is much different than.

Sniff...All I ever wanted was to be a cocoon master...
Review created: 04/11/00
by: Jello77 -- a member of Epinions

Pros:
Two-player mode, endless monsters.

Cons:
Controls, invisible barriers you never seem to be able to see.

Maybe it's good, and maybe it's bad. I'm not gonna tell you. Actually, (duh) I am going to tell you. The game has it's good parts and it's bad parts. The controls are the same as Resident Evil's, so they are a little hard to get used to, but you do eventually. The plot is so-so, I'm not to keen on it. It's not especially creative (neither is Pok mon, so there), but it's not terrible. The game is one of few RPG's that doesn't rely on it's plot. So it's different, the game is about collecting monsters (eek! Pok mon!), except for no limit to the monsters. You can now mix monsters to make...
