One of my Lesser Tarantino Faves
Review created: 07/30/06

This movie was one of my least favorite Tarantino movies. That is not to say that it was bad. The plot line was slower as was the action than i am accustomed to when it comes to Tarantino. As is typical, though, he is paying homage to old actors and old moves, which many of his fans have come to appreciate. Itis worth a look. But if you were choosing a Tarantino movie to watch, this would, perhaps, be the last one I would recommend you watch.

Jackie Brown a superior twist of Foxy Brown
Review created: 05/06/08

Jackie Brown still stands the test of time. Quentin Tarantino is a master at the art of taking us through a story with twists, turns and suprising results. This is an entertaining script with amuzing situations, memorable lines and an all-star cast including Robert Deniro, Briget Fonda and Samuel L Jackson. Pam Grier IS Jackie Brown. I highly recommend this movie. To paraphrase Sam Jackson,"If you have to thrill every mutha in the room except no substitute."

Pot smoking and shoot 'em up

Masterfully written, witty dialogue, and a main character you can feel for. Tarantino is a genius. Samuel L. Jackson is an amazing actor, and this movie epitomizes the director/actor bond. Perfection.

My boyfriend is a movie buff. When I asked him what he wanted for Christmas, this is one of the movies he requested. I was not very successful on Amazon, so I checked with ebay. I was happy with the price and the delivery time. It arrived before Christmas.

Thanks!!!!!!

Tarantino's "hang out" film, Jackie Brown
Review created: 01/20/07

"Jackie Brown" is a fantastic film. Sometimes overshadowed by Tarantino's "Pulp Fiction" and "Reservoir Dogs," it should not be underestimated or overlooked. The characters in this film are superb - mostly thanks to Tarantino's unprecedented writing, but also due to its flawlessly put together cast. Pam Grier and Robert Forster give brilliant performances, not to mention the always hysterical and super-cool Samuel L. Jackson, who delivers his lines with such precise rhythm and personality that the viewer is dying to cross over to the other side of the screen and just hang out with him.
There is a lot going on plot-wise, so the first viewing of "Jackie Brown" is going to be fast-paced and energetic. True fans of the movie, however, know that it gets better and better with each additional viewing, because the dialogue becomes more resonant, the characters become more familiar, and many amusing details begin to pop up unexpectedly. This is why "Jackie Brown" is Tarantino's ultimate "hang out" film: you will love the characters so much with each consecutive viewing, that you will find yourself going back time and time again to the movie just because you want to spend more time with them.
All in all, this motion picture is absolutely terrific and a must-have for any movie buff or Tarantino fan. Three thumbs up!

Jackie Brown, One Hard-*ssed Woman You Don't Want to F*ck With
Review created: 07/26/05
by: thevoid99 -- a member of Epinions

Pros:
Direction/Script, Authenticity, Music, Look, & Cast notably Grier, Jackson, & Forrester.

Cons:
Some Might Not Like the Restraint or Lack of Violence.

***In Memory of Eddie "Mr. Blue" Bunker (1933-2005)*** After the overwhelming success of 1994's Pulp Fiction, Quentin Tarantino was becoming the new king of not just independent cinema but cinema itself. With his stylized and realistic approach to violence, witty dialogue, and charming characters, Tarantino was the director everyone wanted to be. Tarantino also gained something that most of his fellow directors didn't get was celebrity as he started to appear in cameos for films and TV shows while being part of the A-list. Unfortunately, that popularity did put a stigma into independent films.

Jackie Brown - Noir? Nah. Cool? Yes.
Review created: 04/14/02
by: joecooper -- a member of Epinions

Pros:
Possibly Tarantino's best film. De Niro. Samuel L. Jackson.

Cons:
Lots of dialogue (but it's cool)

I like to think I know my cinema. I can bandy the word noir around when I get confused, rattle off a dozen French director s names to impress the chicks, and slag the mass-produced Hollywood blockbusters like I d be the first to knock $20 million back to star in The Mummy VI. However, the big question I ask, come the end of any film, is, Was that cool, or did it suck? It s a technical analysis, but one that serves me well. In the case of Quentin Tarantino s 1997 offering, Jackie Brown, the answer to the all-important question is Yes . Jackie Brown is a very cool film. Although based heavily...

A Long Time Woman Gets Her Due: Miramax's Jackie Brown Collector's Edition DVD
Review created: 09/11/02
by: mfunk75 -- a member of Epinions

Pros:
A more mature Quentin Tarantino film, with his dialogue and style left intact

Cons:
Some find it overlong and overdull; I sure as heck don't

I waited a long time to see "Jackie Brown", because I heard it wasn't any good, and I didn't want to tarnish the memory of "Reservoir Dogs" or "Pulp Fiction", two of the most influential films in my personal cinematic history. Both films were kinetic, profane, daring, and truly visceral experiences. I loved every minute of them. "Jackie Brown" is a horse of a different colour, however. It is low-key, thoughtful, tender, and assured. And, I must say, just as good. "Jackie Brown" is as much a blaxploitation film as "Reservoir Dogs" was a caper film, or "Pulp Fiction" was well pulp fiction....

Jackie Brown Dutch's Rum Punch Quentin-ized
Review created: 02/08/03
by: ChrisJarmick -- a member of Epinions

Pros:
Great marriage of Elmore Leonard, Pam Grier with matured Tarrantino. See it again.

Cons:
None-really.

Superb DVD package for a film that gets better with repeated viewings. More will appreciate with time like they have done with films like Scorcese's King of Comedy, Altman's Long Goodbye and Soderbergh's Out of Sight. Quentin Tarantino graduated Junior High School with Reservoir Dogs; a cool as a cucumber macho riff on low budget Hong Kong action films infused with homages to pop kitsch. He graduated High School with PULP FICTION a hip, show-offy homage that took viewers on a wild gimmicky ride infused with a celebration of pop culture and bad taste. Then, he graduated college with JACKIE...

  A Masterpiece of Streetwise Storytelling
Review created: 01/20/00
by: dperry9 -- a member of Epinions

Pros:
Gritty, evocative storytelling. Excellent acting

Cons:
Somewhat violent. Maybe a bit too subtle for modern movie buffs

What makes Quentin Tarantino's "Jackie Brown" work so well could be summed up simply as transparency. This seems unlikely from an individual known for preceding himself with his own reputation, but with this film Tarantino proves that his patience and self-control in filmmaking is diametric to his habit of laying it on thick in verbal arenas. I feel what makes Tarantino's style stand out these days is that it is more akin to older styles of filmmaking which had yet to depart from the theatrical roots of drama as opposed to the overwhelmingly "cinemaphotographed" and aggressively and...
