My husband and I received this camcorder for Christmas 2004, shortly after our son was born and we have used it many times since. We have found it to a be a wonderfully small and simple to use camcorder that allows us to capture those important moments in our lives.
While this camera doesn't offer a lot of the hype that newer, more advanced cameras do, it is perfect for the person who uses it only on occasion. We are still a huge fan of our digital camera and use the camcorder only for events such as birthday parties or Christmas morning. We have found it to be excellent and dependable for amateur videography.
I recently was told by my sister that this camera started to say lens cap and the picture just stayed black. I did a little research and found that the ccd image sensor went bad. My brother actually bought it for my sister as a christmas gift in 2004. The program was extended a little while than expected. All that came out of my pocket was $4.60(shipping to JVC). If you have one of these camera laying around with this LENS CAP problem, call JVC and send it to them! I did not even need the receipt! THE TIME FRAME OF THIS CAMERA LEAVING AND RETURNING TO ME WAS SEVEN(7) DAYS!
JVC THANKS FOR THE GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! bobb1977
My daughter had one she was happy with but it stopped working. Since she already had the power adapter, battery etc., I bought another to get parts to fix hers. We are now enjoying family videos again.
When I first purchased this camera I was in awe. Just being able to edit the video via firewire was the ultimate for me after fussing with ATI video cards for about a decade.
Firstly, the CCD just failed. I noticed there are a number of people with similar issues and JVC has offered to fix the problem free of charge until Oct 2007. I was lucky because I did buy the extended warranty because my experience with camcorders has been spotty.
Secondly, the item no longer powers up. Nothing, zip, nada so it's back to the depot.
I must say this camera when working is a great unit for the money, and the firewire transfer is pure bliss!
So any takers once I have this item repaired under warranty?
It's going up for auction any day now, once it's back from the shop!
If I could give it a lower rating, I would. We bought this camera new for $800 less than 4 years ago. After one year, the camera just stopped working, it cost us $350 to get it fixed. Now, today....it just stopped again. Wont even turn on. Such a joke. Beware...this particular camera has problems. I am not the only one experiencing them....re-the lawsuit.
This camera was receved broken. There is a class action law suite about the eror I was getting when I turned it on, but this camera did not fall in the suit. It was actualy broken. The tray that you load the tape into, did not fully retract into the machine. I belive that most of the people in the suit also have the same issue, from not being patient with the slow retraction of the tape into the computer. The issue is, that JVC charges a horrid amount to repair them, if they do have a problem. I bought a different JVC any way, but this one works, and I will treat it propperly. I expect a good buy on this one.
Camera worked fine for less than a year. One day this camera and my digital both died...same day! The video camera has no display anymore...only a black screen through the eye piece of the LCD. If I record, I only get black as well. The camera seems to have fried it's CCD.
Is so easy to use JVC really did it with this. If this video camera was a computer it would be an Apple because it is so easy to use and has great picture quality.
If I could give it a lower ranking I would, there is a huge class action lawsuit underway in the U.S. because of the problems with this product. I bought mine just over 2 years ago for $700 Canadian, used it 7 times and it now does not function at all. I have an error code "E04" (safe guard mode) which will not allow me to do anything, not even eject tape. There are literally 1,000's of people trying to sue JVC for this problem currently, some have only used there modes once or twice. DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT, IF YOU DID TRY TO GET YOUR MONEY BACK ASAP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
i love this video camera its so easy to use.Everyone in my family loves it!

I like this camera it is small and lite and takes good pictures its easy too get good shots becuase it's lite so easy to hold still. the only problem I have had with it is that it is not possible to remove the mini dv tape when the battery is dead but that is real minor
Even though this camcorder was used before it is in perfect condition. Is an exelent way to buy a product and I feel really happy with my new camcorder. You can feel free to buy with EBay.
