I thought the DVD was terrific, just like I saw it back in the 1955 or so I can't remember the correct year. But it was good. Didn't care for any of the remakes. There,s nothing like the orginal.
This is a classic. Dana Wynter and Kevin McCarthy give excellent performances in this movie. I saw it years ago in the movies and I'm glad it was available on DVD so that I could add it to my collection. I'm completely satisfied.
This is a very exciting movie. Never know what is going to happen next. No dislikes. A classic movie, well done and excellent acting. Highly recommended.
I saw the 1978 remake of this movie when I was a kid (at the theatre), and loved it. Very suspenseful, and gave you that "hopeless" feeling that you were doomed. I recently purchased the 1978 version and have watched it repeatedly. So, I decided to buy the original version, which I had never seen before, and was a little disappointed.
You could hardly tell the human "clones" were clones! The first clone shown in the movie was someone's uncle. The niece claimed he had "no feelings, no emotions", but when the doctor went to see him he was smiling and smoking a pipe. They didn't really show that much of the "clones" and most of that part of the movie was implied. In the 1978 remake, they relied much more heavily on showing the clones and their activities, which made it much more easier to believe that something evil was really happening. It made it seem like a much more hopeless situation for the surviving humans. The music was also much better in the 1978 version. They also showed very little of the "pods" that took over your body. In the 1978 remake, they were all over, and when you saw one next to a body, you knew it was going to take that person over!
I ordered the DVD from The Video Barn sometime during December 1, 06. Today January 3, 2007. I have not received my movie from Video Barn or redline. Where is my Movie and how do I get a refund if my movie is not available to me. I feel like I've been robbed, but I want my movie. If I could have gotten the movie in my area by the way I would have, yet I have it on order in my local community too. Where is the movie, and how do I get it?
This is a pretty good movie. It is way better than the 1978 re-make. There are no gripping special effects, but the plot development will keep you interested. I always like a glimpse of view of life in the 50's. It was another world.
What a fun, oddball gift for Christmas! I purchased a book about the relevance of Zombie movies as related to cultural events and fears through the decades, together I think this will be an unexpected and interesting offering, much more so than a tie or slippers - the usual holiday fare.
I'm in my second (third?) childhood and like to buy movies that I remember from my first one. This is the original, a "golden oldie", far better in my opinion than the remakes. Shot in B&W and on a low budget, it is still scary. The plot line is coherent, the acting is good. And it's not a parody of either communism or Eisenhower conformity - Kevin McCarthy, the star, says in an interview that it was probably a parody of Madison Avenue advertising!
Anyone who loves classic sci-fi and horror movies will love this one! This is far better than the newer version even without all of the special effects.
I saw this when I was a little kid and it really scared me then and it still gives you the creeps and makes you wonder if it could happen today!
A great sci-fi classic that has been remade a couple of times already. This one is the original and even if you watch the remakes this one deserves to be seen. There is something creepy about old back and white movies anyway (at least to me) that make horror movies more effective. I think it is the lack of special effects and relying more on mood, music and script.
Emotionless shells are replacing the citizens of a California town. At first the town doc puts it down as paranoia - but is it paranoia when they're really after you? Plant-like pods enclose copies of the citizens and the duplicates kill the originals when they sleep. The doc and a small group of citizens decide to leave town and warn the world but they are too late.
This film has been seen as an allegory of communism and even as criticism for the US government at the time. Whatever people saw or want to see under the surface of the movie is just another artistic layer of this great sci-fi movie. The first one to make you scared to fall asleep - take that Freddy!
