All you wanted to know about a Vamp, but afraid to ask!
Review created: 05/20/08(updated 05/20/08)

If you have read the book, believe me, it will be just as a great story as it was in the book, following right along with it. (So few are, this does not make the usual switch-a-roo's) For those who have not........Hold on to your, uh.....necks! A brilliant story created by Anne Rice brought to the screen. A must see for all Tom Cruise, Brad Pitt, Antonio Banderas, Christian Slater and Kirsten Dunst fans. You will follow along the storyline of one Vampires journey through the ages that interconnects with the lives and deaths of many other, humans and Vampires alike. Full of action, stunts, adventure, love, sorrow, and.....yes, pains in the neck. Are you ready to sit down and ask all those questions you always wanted to know from a vampire, but were afraid to ask. Well here's your chance without the fear.

  Interview with the Vampire

Its a movie that I really like. I like the actors...all of them. Tom is so good as Lestat, Brad....never ending lamenting about not wanting to take life...so he drains the blood from rats. Antonio is so sexy, he just oozes sex. I have always thought vampires were the most sexy of the "monster" creatures. They are so dark and mysterious, a dark side of 'life'. I would have to say that this movie is one of my favorites to take to horse shows to watch after dinner. I had read the book years ago, but found the movie to bring it more to life for me. Anyway that is my take on this film.

  Vampires Rule All

I don't think there is hardly any vampire or horror fan who hasn't seen this film. This is one of those key genre movies where everything is measured in the before and after from it. The all star cast, great special effects, costumes, and the perfect pacing of the film make it one of the greatest movies of all time.

  Brad Pitt? This is funny

I like this of the setting of the movie. I find it interesting to them to show how vampire conjoin together, as this is true. I also find the issue of the play, the performance very delightful. Many of vampire are these of artist. Those are from original families of France. This movie to eliminate some of horror of our kind, as it to say there is compassion for vampire sincerity in this movie. I do not like this the part of the child being portrayed as vampire. Vampire would never harm this of child. Is against all that is ancient. Only one way of child to be of vampire. To be born this way. But i find this movie refreshing, and lead actors a bit eccentric. I like this Brad Pitt, as is true, not all vampire are Black Hair.

  Interview..
Review created: 03/06/08

I remember watching this movie when it first came out as a teenager and loving it. I'm the girl thats not goth at all but manages to be a class act vamp every holloween. I recently started to read the Chronicles and obviously started with Interview. As with most books-turned-movies (Harry potter, Waiting to Exhale etc) I prefer to read the book then watch the film which i immediately purchased on ebay. It was different the second time around.

While the setting and characters are fine I was a bit disappointed by the absolutle lack of material taken from t he book. I understand that to include much of it would make the movie a few days long but it still seems cut off. What about the freakish brainless eastern european vamps or the entire trip there in the first place?

I don't mind Tom Cruise as LeStat. He wouldn't be my first choice but he isn't horrible either. Definately would have prefered Stuart Townsend in this movie as he was super in Queen of the Damned. Brad Pitt is simply sexy and does the aloof/depressed role quite well (see Legends of the Fall). (I thought Armond looked like a cherub.. not Banderas...) My favorite movie character was definately Claudia... the rage! Kirsten does a great job but my only discrepency with that is I was under the impression in the book that she was about 4 years old. I understand getting a toddler to be so serious would be hard but Kirsten looks about 10 in the film and I find it takes away from her ruthless-ness.

If you haven't read the book what you dont know won't hurt you. What is in the movie still makes a complete story. As its own entity its a great movie. The effects are super. Don't pass it up.

A gives you "the willies" kinda movie. Great basis about a vampire granting a news man an interview about his past years of life. Enter creepy other vampires and their stories intertwined and its spook night at your house! Lock your doors, grab the hot chocolate, call brinks security and watch this flick!!

Interview with the Vampire, Good job
Review created: 02/06/08

I purchased this DVD after reading Anne Rice’s novel by the same name. I was a bit disappointed to see the two male leads as I didn’t feel these actors could do the parts justice. Surprisingly they did a fair job. However I was blown away by the performance of Kirsten Dunst. I had thought that this role would have to be dramatically changed as no child actress could possibly portray that character as it was written. She absolutely nailed it! The cinematography was excellent. I’m not sure how the film would appear to somebody that had not read the novel. I don’t think the depth of the characters can be expressed in a short film, and with superficial actors. I would love to see more films from the series, but with more appropriate male leads.

Great cast and Film Interpretation of Anne Rice's book.

I was not at all interested in anything related to vampire's when I bought the book INTERVIEW WITH A VAMPIRE. I wanted to read it after seeing an interview with Anne Rice. She wrote this book while trying to deal with the death of her 6 year old daughter from Lukemia. The book is more about what would life be like if there were no end and her searching for her own answers concerning her daughter' death than vampires( they were the vehicle she used to describe her searching). Her characters are awesome studies. It is no coincidence that one of them is a girl(played by a very young and awesomely acted by Kirsten Dunst) turned into a vampire when she was the age of Anne's daughter. I was mesmerized by it. I like the way it develops and the sympathy she draws from you for these evil laden characters. I was excited to see it brought to film, since I am a fan of film. She was against Tom Cruise playing Lestat at first. I thought the casting was perfect and was pleased with the finished product though it was much darker than the book. I bought this movie to see again because everyone in it are quite a bit older now and it has added information on the making of the film. Opra Winfrey called it the most evil movie she had ever seen. To me it is one of the most disturbing and visually realistic films I have ever seen on this subject made more evil with visual special effects( you feel like praying after you've seen it!). It should be shown every Halloween. If you don't read the book too, you will miss alot of the story. Anne Rice wrote the screenplay but the movie would have been 6 hours long if she had included everything in the book. One of the top 10 horror movies in my opinion.

  DISAPPOINTING!!! (Oh, yes....!!!)

...Well, I know that probably a lot of people would disagree with me, but I found this movie to be a dud. I admire Anne Rice's writing, especially her "Vampire Chronicle's"...In my mind I can see so clearly the story, the characters, the settings (cities, etc.) and I take seriously her descriptions: so that ONE LOOK at Tom Cruise as Lestat and Brad Pitt as Louis and I POPPED the DVD out of the player without seeing a single other scene! Anne Rice describes in "The Vampire Lestat" the way Lestat looks--tall, lean, sensual mouth; he is forever going to look 21 years old. He does a Rock concert in the Cow Place (NOW, in any stretch of the imagination, can you imagine Tom Cruise as a "Bad Boy" Rocker!!!---aside from the fact that he is too old!!!). Tom Cruise's Lestat is foppish, efemminate and freakish. AND Brad Pitt--a casting disaster!!! In "The Vampire Lestat" one of the main things that is outstanding about him (Louis) is his black, black hair!!! If you want to see Lestat (at least my idea of, him see "Queen of the Damned " with Stuart Townsend as Lestat---NOW THAT IS LESTAT!!!---and check out the "Rock Concert" in this movie--and the videos that are an addition to the DVD---OUTSTANDING!!!)

A thrilling story that is chalked full of stars.

Interview with the Vampire is a movie adaptation of the Anne Rice novels. It was released in 1994 and it is still as incredible of a movie today as it was then.

The movie follows the vampires Lestat and Louis as they come to terms with what they are. The movie is taken from the point of view of Louis telling an interviewer all about his life since he was bitten by the vampire Lestat. It is an awe-inspiring movie and a true thriller.

The number of stars in this movie also provides you to the quality of it: Brad Pitt, Tom Cruise, Kirsten Dunst, Antonio Bandaras, and Christian Slater are just a few.

5/5

  Interview with the vampire: Re-playability
Review created: 05/08/07
by:
1 of 2 people found this review helpful.

I first watched this movie when I was little, and it left a huge impact on me. I must have been around 9 or 10. It not only left the impression of evil on a 10 year old mind, but it was something unique, with a great plot. I grew up always hearing of "great evil" and "legendary deeds" by those on opposing sides of faith in whatever god they chose, but never really witnessed anything remotely evil or purely selfless. While it may have been completely fictional, this movie gave me my first view into something truly evil that could at least be related to the real world. I think it just gave me a better perspective on life (a good headstart, if you will, on a wiser outlook). This is probably only true for me, but no matter who you are one thing remains true about this movie, it has AWESOME re-playability value. You can watch this movie like every few months and still love it.

Interview with the Vampire (2000, DVD)
Review created: 03/06/07

The Anne Rice books are very descriptive and while this movie was decent, it can not compare to the movie in ones own head while reading the book. as with most movies that are taken from books, there are items or sences that are omitted or changed to fit the movie screen; but all in all it was a good vampire movie.
