  Easy, Enjoyable Read

This book is great for a little bit of "me" time. The story is enjoyable and the characters are funny. You will laugh and cry while reading this book. The story is about two sisters who are very different but end up finding peace with one another and with themselves. This book isn't as good as Weiner's other novels, so I was a little dissapointed. Overall, though, I enjoyed it.

Jennifer Weiner has yet to let me down. I absolutely love love love her books. This is a super summer read. A great tale about women without all the cheesiness that generally follows. A great, no bs book for anyone.
Read it, you will not be disappointed!

In Her Shoes: Three generations of women shattered by an event
Review created: 04/15/03

Pros:
Deeply drawn characters, plenty of emotion, and wit.

Cons:
If you don't like novels about modern women, you won't like this one.

So the title of my review sounds depressing. Don't worry, the book isn't. After my latest excursion into fiction, I was a bit worried, but once I sank my teeth into the lastest epic of modern live and love by Jennifer Weiner, I was hooked. Meet Rose and Maggie Feller. Two sisters that are two years -- and oceans apart. Rose, the elder, is a lawyer, a bit zaftig, and who could care less about fashion and style -- except when it comes to footwear. Maggie is implusive, spendthrift, thieving and yet -- she has a certain charm to her as she weasels her way through life, ripping off people and not..

In Her Shoes, Same Size Feet..and That's About It!

Pros:
Characters become very likable, easy read, great for the beach or pool.

Cons:
Much too long, too much character probing, not enough action.

I recently went on a weekend trip to Denver to fetch my kidlets from their paternal family. We drove from Kansas City to Denver in 8 hours, and about 100 miles into Kansas I realized I forgot my book. If you've ever driven across Kansas, you'll understand what I mean when I say after a while, every CD sounds the same. So, I stopped at some kind of Stuckey's/DairyQueen/Gas Station and chose a new novel to read on the journey to Colorado. I had never heard of Jennifer Weiner but the cover of the book In Her Shoes had a banner across the front that said From the author of the NYT's best seller ..

  Two Sisters, Completely Opposite
Review created: 01/09/03
by: tiffy0380 -- a member of Epinions

Pros:
great plot and convincing characters

Cons:
a bit slow at the end

Sibling rivalry is a topic that can either make or break a fiction book. It can be used to enhance the storyline, or stifle characters by putting them into clich d situations. Jennifer Weiner the author of In Her Shoes, does an excellent job of developing a captivating plot out of what could have been two very lifeless characters. In Her Shoes follows the life of two sisters, each convincingly different in their own ways. There is Rose, the older more responsible of the girls and her sister Maggie who is selfish irresponsible and completely destructive with her own life. These two sisters...

If The Shoe Fits, Read It
Review created: 02/27/03
by: disinclined -- a member of Epinions

Pros:
Lively, zesty writing with witty descriptions and great dialogue.

Cons:
Underdeveloped protagonists meander through the pages, begging for reader sympathy.

Plot Details: This review contains somewhat major plot details, but nothing that will hamper your enjoyment of the book. Limericks get a bad rap, I think. If you ve ever tried to pen one yourself, you know they re not as easy as their whippy pace and dirty punchlines make them seem. There s a hilarious moment toward the end of In Her Shoes, where one of the main characters, standing up to read a poem at a formal occasion, wryly notes to herself that her parents probably think she s going to bust out something that begins, There once was a girl from Nantucket. Happily, she doesn t. But the...

A Tale of Two Sisters, and More
Review created: 06/03/07
by: soulkissed2003 -- a member of Epinions

Pros:
A smart, modern story of two sisters and those whose lives they touch.

Cons:
Cannot think of any!

Jennifer Weiner gained popularity with her first novel, "Good in Bed". So many fans were happy to see "In Her Shoes" published as well. This second book was such a hit, it was made into a movie starring Cameron Diaz. Do yourself a favor though -- take the time to read this fun, insightful story before you head to the video store for the film version. Rose Feller is a no-nonsense 30-year-old lawyer in Philadelphia. She has a nice apartment and an expensive, if somewhat frumpy, wardrobe. Underneath her put-together exterior however, Rose feels insecure about herself and her relationships with..
