  As a reading assignment...

As a reading assignment, I thought the book was rather uninteresting for the first 200 pages. It didn't grab my interest until way later at the end of the book. So in a nutshell to read the book for fun is probably a waste of time, but if you have to read it for a class, well good luck.

Truman Capote's book is so beautifully crafted. First takes you through a day in the life of the Clutters and you feel so much pain for them because you know what's coming. His characters are so well described, including the killers, whom you see as human, which makes their crime so much more unthinkable. Best to read the book and then see the original movie, "In Cold Blood", and "Capote". Interesting to see how the story is told on film, especially "Capote", which tells the story of the writing of the book.

Fantastic condition. Will get great pleasure reading this. I decided to buy a copy because it was my distant cousins that were murdered. Every now and then we all read the book again and have prayers.

  Must have book!

I'm not a big fan of reading. In fact, I'm not a fan at all. But this book grabs your attention so well. It's very easy to understand. No big words and it doesn't blabber on about some uninteresting side story. This is straight to the point and all the details are juicy! And the best part is that IT'S BASED ON TRUE EVENTS!!!

I can finally leave the library's copy of In Cold Blood alone. I bought my own. It's an excellent book. Thank you. It came on time in the condition promised.

The book came quickly and well packaged. If there were weather issues during shipment, the packaging kept the product safe and damage-free. I didn't have to wait long for the book to arrive and the quality of it, even though it was used, was quite good.

"In Cold Blood" by Truman Capote

I've always wanted to read this book. I wasn't able to read it in high school because not only did our school library not have it but not even the town library had it. So I looked for it on eBay and found it. I haven't been able to put it down and have read it twice.

  Excellent book
Review created: 09/20/06

In Cold Blood is an excellent book; I could not put it down. It is a story about a brutally murdered family in Kansas. The book starts out by introducing you to the family, later you see things from the killers' and detective's perspectives. The question that will be burning in your mind is why did they do it? This is answered at the book's climax and after that, the book slows down concluding with the outcome of the case.

I watched the movie Capote immediately after reading the book and it offered an interesting perspective: I was not aware how involved the author of the book was with the murderers and the trial. After seeing the movie, the drawn out ending of the book makes more sense; it mirrors the slow pace of the conclusion of the trial in real life. Capote couldn't finish the book until the case had come to an end.

I have not read a lot, but what I have read so far I have enjoyed. I can't wait to get back to it. He really has an excellent writing style. I love the way he describes the charactors and ties them together. I highly recommend it.

I bought this book because my Book Club will be discussing it in July. While I'm not a big fan of this genre, I thought it was well written. It describes the characters in depth and does a good job of reconstructing the crime from the viewpoint of someone who was not an actual witness. There is only one question the book does not answer about the murders, but there is enough details to let the reader come to their own conclusion.

I saw the movie and was interested in the book what a good read! The book has a lot of interesting facts that the movie doesn't and the story grips you to the end.

  Amazing

This book started off a bit slow, and was slightly confusing at first, but as i read on the whole thing started to come together and WOW!... evil and heart-renching and somewhat sympathetic would be some of the words to describe the 2 protaganists in this book...but not forgiveable... to think this actually happened in real life was believeable since yes..it actually DID happen...and there have been worse real life murders... but this book was written by someone who became very close to the 2 killers and learned their thoughts and life stories and it shines thru in the writing... excellent and well written.... WAY better than the movie 'Capote' which didnt explain anything and basically put me to sleep... A++

  A dry read
Review created: 06/02/06

When this book was first written I'm sure it was shocking but in this day and age it seems like a fairly dry read. The crime was unheard of years ago and I'm sure was quite fascinating but not so much any more. Capote put a lot of himself into this book and is to be admired for that, I suppose, but other than that not all that interesting.

Stunning book, and a creator of a genre

Recounting the senseless murder of a family of four in the American heartland and the ensuing case up until the death penalty was meted out to the murderers, Capote practically created a new genre of literature that is sometimes referred to as the "jounalistic novel." A true story, told as a gripping tale with incredible character build up that Capote is so good at, this book is chilling and absorbing.
