Pros:
Aerosmith!

Cons:
Their only number 1 hit, and they didn't write it.

Admit it. You like this song. Or, at least you liked it once upon a time. If you still are saying no, then you re in denial. This is, after all, a great song. After 1997 s Nine Lives produced several hit singles, Aerosmith took it easy and laid low for a while. So, in the summer of 1998, I was thrilled, among many others, to hear a new Aerosmith tune. Sure, it always takes a ballad for great rock bands to get noticed these days, but it s Aerosmith, so I wasn t complaining. Every time this song came on TV, or radio, I turned the volume on full blast, and sang with all of my heart. It didn t...

Pros:
good lyric; fine melody; intense vocals

Cons:
none

Aerosmith is one of the greatest Hard Rock groups of all times. Their monster ballad "I Don't Want to Miss a Thing" is their first single to ever reach number one on the charts. I am surprised by this, because for around a quarter decade they have produced some great Rock songs: "Dream On" (1973); "Sweet Emotion" and "Walk This Way" (1975); "Ragdoll" and "Dude (Looks Like a Lady)" (1987); "Love in an Elevator" and "Janie's Got a Gun" (1989), etc. Steve Tyler, the lead singer/songwriter, is the major reason why. Except for Robert Plant of Led Zeppelin, Tyler has the greatest Hard Rock voice I..

  A slow, weak *BALLAD*

Pros:
It's Aerosmith...!

Cons:
Too slow, not the typical Aerosmith song.

Record Label: Columbia Release Date: 7-23-1998 Track Listing: 1. I Don't Want To Miss A Thing 2. Animal Crackers 1. I Don't Want To Miss A Thing I Don't Want To Miss A Thing is the theme song for Armageddon that was written by Diane Warren. There is no doubt, this song is a ballad. It's not a "Dream On", power ballad, it's a typical movie ballad. Steven Tyler and Aerosmith did all they could to make this song sound the best that it could, but even the best classic rockers in America couldn't fix this song up. But it's a #1 in the charts! One good thing about I Don't Want To Miss A Thing is...

Congrats on Being #1 Guys but.....

Pros:
it's well written, it finally got the band a well deserved #1 hit

Cons:
this is what Aerosmith has become?

....again, what is up with this ballad stuff? Yes, the song is written rather well for a Diane Warren tune (considering she's the same person who gave us that God-forsaken Titanic song if I'm not mistaken) but this is NOT Aerosmith. Yes, I totally understand when a band evolves and changes it's sound because they are better songwriters and musicians. But this song is such a step back for this band. Nine Lives had returned them (well for the most part) to the rock stratosphere (even though it didn't sell 12 million copies because of the lack of ballads), and the band looked like it was poised..
