This was a great deal and the reason Ebay was invented. Wow!! The DVD played perfectlt. This movie is awesome and seeing it in high def is incredible. The fight scenes are out of this world and cinematography is spectacular. The House of Flying Daggers is great!!!!!
Very colorful and clear movie, I like that you have a choice to view it in English without suffering through reading subtitles, bluray is much better than dvd version and worth purchasing for the English alone. Love story with a good twist. Great action scenes. Highly recommend this movie.
This movie is a feast of eye-candy in terms of color and choreography, perfect for the Blu-ray system. Enjoy the full benefits of HD. The action and colors will just saturate your eyes even if you have just a regular tv. Great martial arts as well as Great story/plot. If you liked Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, or Curse of Golden Flower, you will like this one too... You will be glad.
I already have this movie in regular DVD Format, I recently purchased Sony Blu-ray Disc Player and I wanted to try out the quality of Blu-ray disc. I'm a little disappointed on the quality of the movie I thought it will be as clear as I thought it will be.. 5 of my blu-ray discs that I purchased at Best Buy and Circuirt City are super clear with amazing clarity! Maybe because the quality of TV I have. I have a 42 Plasma HDMI Advent it not a Sony!
I love this film. It has a nice love story built around martial arts, special effects, wonderful camera work and of course beautiful actress Ziyi Zhang - simply hard to keep the eyes off her. There are not too many movies that I want to watch more than once. This one I watched three times already. This DVD is definitely a keeper.
I decided to purchase this film because I recently purchased a PS3 and I wanted try out a Blu-ray disc. Well, let me tell you, it is AWESOME! The picture is super clear and the overall viewing experience via the HDMI connection on my TV was tops! If you have a PS3 and haven't watched Blu-ray discs, then you don't know what you are missing! The special effects on this movie were phenomenal!! I totally recommend that you purchase this film! It's totally sweet!!
I am not ordinarily a fan of this genre, but I saw the film playing while I was evaluating HDTVs at a local store. I ended up with a Blu-ray 1080-P and the 52inch Sony Bravia XBR flat panel 1080P lcd. The combination of a 1080 P dvd and 1080P tv is spectacular, and this movie is staggeringly beautiful when viewed on a Blu-ray player. The echo game scene is mesmerizing; especially if you have a good surround sound system. Now, of course, I am spoiled for any other type of media, and await the release of more movies on BLU ray!
I first bought this movie because this is the movie that they always use to demo 5.1 surround sound in a home theater. Because of this I knew I had to have it to test how good my speakers and receiver sound (also purchased from eBay). The movie is in 5.1 dolby digital only while in Cantonese language mode, which was a little bit of a bummer, but these types of movies seem better in Cantonese anyways. The English version does not get the 5.1 Dolby Digital.
The sound is amazing, and the story line was actually really good. I wasn't expecting it to be so well done.
Extremely cool asian style graphics. Beautifully drawn out fighting scenes. Awesome action cool sceneries. Gotta check this movie out in the brilliance of 1080p HDTV resolution!
I love it! Excellent cinematic effects both audio and visual which you'd appreciate in blu-ray technology. The story or plot is beautiful and touching with stunning swordsplay although these qualities are nowadays very common in Chinese kung fu movies. I'd honestly give this a 4.5 out of 5.
hannah's review is pathetic. That review probably came from someone who's idea of a great film is Doom or The Fast and the Furious. First off, the film is Chinese. Having said that, one should understand the cultural differences between China and the US. This is a beautiful film, one that can appeal to most people. Zhang Yimou is a fantastic director. His use of color is astounding. I must admit that I enjoyed Hero a lot more than this film. The action is great (although sparse), the music is great, and the acting is great (I love Andy Lau and Takeshi Kaneshiro). If artsy films aren't your cup of tea, stay away. I really hope people give movies like this a chance. Asian cinema is a breath of fresh air.
