I just moved to the high plains and realized that about the only Clint Eastwood movie I didn't own was High Plains Drifter. I consider it a must own movie. Of course, I consider Clint Eastwood a genius and High Plains Drifter is among the best of the genre.

  Revenge at it's best

A perfect example of revenge at it's best, Clint plays an x lawman that was suppose to be dead after a town had him killed, well he comes back in a year & noone remembers him, he takes care of business in classic Clint Eastwood fashion. Lots of violence & killing, one of his best movies if you ask me!!!

  High Plains Drifter (1998, DVD)
Review created: 06/08/06

This is a typical Clint Eastwood "get the bad guys, save the innocent" and there was enough acceptable character actors/actresses that it makes it believable. As you can imagine, I am a Eastwood fan and ebay is a source that let's me search at my leisure for hit movies.

Painting the Town: High Plains Drifter

Pros:
Story, Direction, Eastwood, Supporting Cast

Cons:
Low budget unfortunately shows

In an early directorial effort, Clint Eastwood caps off his spaghetti western trilogy with a tip of the hat to mentor Sergio Leone. TV star Eastwood (Rawhide) had made his splash on the big screen with the so-called spaghetti western, filmed by an Italian crew with German funding in Spain. High Plains Drifter is an illustration of karma what goes around, comes around. Eastwood explores a dark vision of townsfolk of an isolated western town bonding together for protection of their common interest but too cowardly to do the dirty work themselves. His mysterious Stranger holds a mirror up to...

Pros:
Clint Eastwood's acting and directing, decent story.

Cons:
Low budget actors and sets...

Stranger: You're going to look pretty silly with that knife sticking out of your ass. Directed by Clint Eastwood Clint Eastwood as The Stranger High Plains Drifter 1973 Story / Plot A stranger shows up in this little hole in the wall town with a bunch paranoid schizophrenics, a horny woman and a midget. It sounds like a logger joke but it s not. High Plains Drifter is one of the great all time westerns. This is not your normal stranger either, he is as fast as lightning with his pea shooter and he respects no one. The paranoid schizophrenics decide if they can t kill him, they ll hire him to..

  Drift wood? No, Eastwood!

Pros:
cutting edge for it's time, the perfect "guy" movie

Cons:
I didnt really see any.

This is the movie that made me a fan of Clint Eastwood. Not only does he play the character that every man envisions himself as from time to time, but I later discovered he directed this classic as well. There aren't many traditional humor spots in the action/cowboy movie, but you will find yourself laughing at several situations. When Eastwood rides into the corrupt town of Largo everything changes. Almost instantly we see the unnamed gunslinger is extremely proficient with his tools as he promptly eliminates three of the town bullies. Impressed, the town's people give Clint his run of the...

Lago Will Remember The Day He Came To Their Town
Review created: 12/09/06
by: ecn71270 -- a member of Epinions

Pros:
Eastwood's gaunt and sinister character; his direction; total on-location cinematography

Cons:
A somewhat objectionable rape scene

Having made a great debut behind the camera (as well as in front of it) with the 1971 suspense thriller PLAY MISTY FOR ME, Clint Eastwood found a way to return to the kind of role that made him an international superstar in the first place--the mythical "Man With No Name" that he personified in that outrageously successful trilogy of spaghetti westerns he made with director Sergio Leone in the 1960s. That way was through HIGH PLAINS DRIFTER, courtesy of Oscar-winning screenwriter Ernest Tidyman (of SHAFT and THE FRENCH CONNECTION fame). But rather than try for a retread of Leone, Eastwood,...

High Plains Drifter, a western unlike any other...

Pros:
Captures Leone's take on the West quite successfully to a certain degree, classic Eastwood character.

Cons:
Extremely dark, morbid. Too much of an emphasis on the word anti-hero.

High Plains Drifter was a very dark, morbid western directed by Clint Eastwood, who also starred in it. Much unlike his work with Sergio Leone in such late western epics as Fistfull of Dollars, For a Few Dollars More and The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly, this movie has absolutely no rays of light shining through the overall dark, depressing feel of the film whatsoever, and absolutely no sign of comic relief unlike Leone's work with Eastwood. However, having said that it is an absolutely fantastic film nonetheless. Eastwood plays an unnamed drifter who (once again) we know absolutely nothing...
