Hide and Seek (2005, VHS)

A long beautiful yet deadly game of hide and seek.

Pros:
Wonderful surprise ending.

Cons:
Takes way to long to get to the ending.

I recently purchased Hide and Seek (2005) at my local video store for pennies on the dollar. The film starts off with the following words, "First day of the New Year", "New York City", in white set in a black background. The movie finally begins with a tranquil and happy setting immediately introducing the viewer to the main characters. Emily Callaway (Dakota Fanning) is being spun around in circles on a carousel by her mother Alison Callaway (Amy Irving) who is eventually joined by her husband Dr. David Callaway (Robert De Niro). Jumping right into the movies plot Emily s mother engages in a.

Hide your eyes and Seek another movie

Pros:
Dakota Fanning has some intimidating facial expressions, nice parts that will make you jump

Cons:
not scary enough, not one of Deniro's best

Fifteen minutes into Hide and Seek, maybe even twenty, I loudly expressed my opinion to my girlfriend sitting next to me how the movie was going to end. I made the same assumption in White Noise, though I was only half right with it during that movie. With Hide and Seek though, I nailed it on the head. Scary movies are starting to trickle into theaters now, and while I can t comment on Boogeyman, Hide and Seek did exactly what it s intentions are - it made me jump. Boy did it make me jump good. Jumpiness aside, Hide and Seek didn t exactly stack up to what I thought it would be, and I was...

  Hide And Sleep

Pros:
A little suspenseful in spots

Cons:
Slow-moving, not terribly engaging

Watch out, Dakota Fanning is a force to be reckoned with. At the tender age of 10, she has already made her face known via a series of successful films including I Am Sam, Man On Fire, The Cat In The Hat and now this one, Hide And Seek. Aside from playing a startling variety of roles, Dakota is now (gasp!) dying her hair too. (And is it just me or are those teeth an awful lot bigger than just a year ago?) At this rate, she'll be married in another 3 years and go on to become the first female president of the United States. Stranger things have happened. In H

  HIDE BUT DON'T SEEK
Review created: 01/28/05

Pros:
Dakota Fanning

Cons:
Script and weak ending

When I saw the previews for this movie, it looked like a sure winner. Looks can be deceiving. Not even the incredible acting talents of Robert DeNiro and Dakota Fanning could save this film. Why did I not like the movie? Here's a few reasons: 1. There are huge inconsistencies in the plot. Without giving away the "surprise" ending, one of the main characters apparently has mastered the ability to be in two places at the same time. At least that is what director John Polson leads us to believe. 2. I found the script to be incredibly weak for a film starring first rate actors. De Nero,...

You go seek another movie and hide from this one!
Review created: 07/08/05

Pros:
Powerful cast, few really good scares and some of the sound effects.

Cons:
Concept, really slow moving, everything seems forced and the R rating is silly.

At their new home in upstate New York, newly widowed psychologist David Callaway tries desperately to help his traumatized daughter Emily deal with her mother's death but before long, both David and Emily are being terrorized by someone or something named Charlie: a "friend" who may or may not be imaginary but is definitely the stuff nightmares are made of! Spoilers are in this review. Cast/Acting: Powerful cast is in Hide And Seek. Staring Robert De Niro, Dakota Fanning, Elizabeth Shue and Famke Janssen. Robert De Niro is THE type of guy that would be found in mobster movies...not in a scary.
