  Excellent Monitor

I bought the HP LP3065 off ebay with some degree of reluctance. I’d never seen this monitor in person and bought it based only on reviews I had read. I am an amateur photographer and I want to get the best color reproduction possible. Since the HP boasts a 92% color gamut from the S-IPS panel, I thought it would be a good choice. When the box arrived and I unpacked and installed the monitor I was blown away by two things: The size and the color.

The first thing I did was bring up a full screen landscape image from Alaska. I was stunned! I could not take my eyes off it. Besides the obvious that the image was HUGE, it also had stunning color. I had never seen such vibrant, but not oversaturated, colors in this image. The reds had different shades of red, they were not just red or not red, there was a whole spectrum of hues and tones. It really looked good! Real good! Since my initial experience I’ve looked at hundreds of images and still can’t believe how good they look.

As for size, well this monitor consumes my computer desk. I can’t see around it, I can’t see over it, I can’t see under it, it hides everything behind it. It’s like a big wall on my desk. Needless to say I like it. I can get 4 standard size windows open and displayed at the same time. You’ve got all sorts of room for configuring Photoshop and other image editing programs. Space is no longer an issue.

  Big sometimes means better

There is a lot to like in a monitor this big. Okay, bad joke but the monitor is great. The display quality is almost impeccable, bright, sharp and the colors are rich. The high quality LCD panel used in this monitor offers much truer color than you will get from cheaper panels and the viewing angle is wider than on lesser panels. It does take up quite a bit of real estate but remember how much space a CRT monitor takes up. This HP has 3 DVI inputs. No HDMI, no Display Port or VGA. Depending on your needs this may or may not be a problem. Make sure your video card can put out 2560 x 1600. There is no on OSD, on-screen display. The only adjustments are for brightness and again there is no OSD for reference so all the fine tuning is done with the software for your video card. If you want to game to this pup you will need some serious video horsepower, probably SLI or Crossfire cards. You can't beat 30" for work with Photoshop or CAD programs. If you have the coin to buy one of these you won't be disappointed just keep in mind that it is huge. Go to a brick and mortar store and see a 30" display along side others such as a 24" or 22" to get a real perspective. Highly recommended.

With 2560 x1600 resolution, edge to edge sharpness and excellent color rendering, this is a fine monitor for amateur or graphics/video professional. I've seen no better in over 20 years of Graphics Arts Work...

  Hewlett Packard LP3065 Monitor

This is hands down the best monitor I have ever owned. Not a single dead pixel, colors out of the box are vivid, it is fast enough to handle anything you throw at it. Being a minimalist with respect to all of my components I appreciated the simplicity of it's design. The lack of what I consider to be bells and whistles is for me a plus. The only negative for me is the hdcp support. It does in fact support hdcp at 720p so the manufacturer does not mis-represent with the claim that it supports HD content over hdcp. However, it will not present 1080p content from an hdcp compliant device. If you want to watch Blu-ray at 1080p you will have to invest in a workaround - the monitor is capable, but the hdcp says no. Having said that, gaming at 2560 x 1600 is amazing and 1080p content not encumbered by hdcp is stunning.

  Huge and beautiful monitor
Review created: 03/07/08

First of all, this is a great monitor overall - huge, beautiful, with the biggest resolution available on the market.

Positive: This monitor 3 inputs - great feature if you are a power user using more than one computer: you can leave one or even two machines doing batch jobs in the background and concentrate on something on the third machine.

Negative: If you are thinking of doing graphic design or prepress on this monitor, you'd better choose an Apple Cinema Display, because it has better color - this one gives too saturated colors and even after calibration with an EyeOne calibrator, still the image on the Apple monitor looks more realistic.

Great monitor, but one thing that's make me so worry sometime when powered on, the green light goes off even when there is video on the screen.

What can I say about the Hewlett Packard LP3065 Monitor other than awesome. I have owned this monitor for a couple of months and just love it. It's color and brightness are breath taking. As far as gaming applications it's unbelievable. I'm running a 710 XPS with dual Nvidia Geforce (768 MB x 2) in SLI mode. This allows me to bump up the resolution to 2560x1600. I highly recommend this monitor and I have noticed that comparable monitors (Dell or Samsung) sell for much more on Ebay. If you want a great monitor at a great price take a look at the Hewlett Packard LP3065 Monitor you won't be disappointed!
