I actually purchased the entire series of "Revealed" books because we were taking a cruise through the islands. They are the best resource out there. I would highly recommend any or all of them. They contain so much insider information since the author lives on the island of Maui. It would be hard to find a better guide book than this one for the Big Island. It's a must buy before you travel to Hawaii!
I discovered this book through a Hawaii forum, Konaweb, where many members recommend it. It is very easy to read, great size to carry with you each day of vacation, and the author includes healthy doses of humor thoughout. I love the way part of the book is divided in to areas of the island & has everything dealing with that area. Then part is divided into specific categories---beaches, restaurants, lodging, adventure tours, etc.; say if you are interested in just beaches---you can find out where all kinds of great beaches are & specifically how to get to them & why the author recommends them. Problems with this book? Only that it gives you so much information that you want to do/try everything, and there is never enough time while on vacation to do them all! So, you have to return. And bring your "Blue Book" with you!
We used the book by the same author last year (Maui Revealed) and we loved the little out of the way places they told you to go. We go to Hawaii next week hope it is as good as the Maui book. I have heard oly good things about it.
We went to Hawaii the first time without this guide and we missed much. On our second visit the trip was much more enjoyable and we wasted much less time on places that are not worth the time or effort. Don't tour Hawaii without it!
These books are also knowb as the blue books. They start at one spot on the Island and weok thier way around the Island distrect by distrect and have details that only the locals know. My first but book. John
What a great book! We used this some much on our Hawaii vacation. Great tips and places to go on the island. Would suggest it to everyone going on the island. Loved the Queens Bath one of our very favorites. Easy to read and good reviews.
