  The Dels ROCK!
Review created: 05/24/07

Besides having some great tunes, with GREAT instrumentation and melodies, the lyrics and vocals are AWESOME. One of the BEST bands ever. Would love to see them get back together, make new music and tour. A must have for ANY DELS fan or one who loves ballads. Also great with a PINT of Cold Brew!

don't know how i missed this great group. they have some wonderful lyrics, easy tunes and great ballads that tell a story. Lead vocals are rich and right on. Listen to 'spit in the wind" or 'be my downfall'.

  Looking For Bottles of Love...

Pros:
Great lyrics, songs, music. Very, very creative and appealing.

Cons:
Not enough attention paid to the band...

In America, too much hype will win you an audience, a few million copies of sales, and then a defiant slap in the face. In the UK, the same amount of publicity will get you a slap in the face much more quickly. This is precisely the backlash experienced by Scottish pop-rock-folk-soul men Del Amitri during the mid-1980 s. Yes, Del Amitri has been around now for two full decades. In 1982, bassist, vocalist, and songwriter Justin Currie joined forces with guitarist Iain Harvie to form the earliest version of the band that would soon tour with bands like The Smiths. It took until 1985 for Del...

Pros:
Thoughtful, intelligent & funny lyrics. This album definitely has "sing-along" quality.

Cons:
Why wasn't this band popular???

Del Amitri was a Scottish band that had fleeting success in the States as a result of a couple of hit singles spread throughout the early Nineties. As a fan of those singles, i purchased this greatest hits compilation to get a better sense of who these guys are and was pleasantly surprised by the results. These songs are told from an "Everyman" point of view, and lead singer Justin Currie has an "everyman" type of voice. He reminds me of the kind of guy that would be sitting next to you at the local bar...or the guy who would be slinging drinks behind the bar. He has a slightly raspy, lived...

  Scotland's Best Kept Secret...?
Review created: 08/03/01

Pros:
Some wonderfully written, well crafted songs.

Cons:
Limited Subject matter perhaps ?

At some point in the late eighties Del Amitri quietly crept into the UK charts with their first real hit Nothing Ever Happens . Since that time it would be an exaggeration to say they had troubled the charts with their presence on a regular basis. However as this compilation of their single releases from 1989 to 1998 indicates it was everybody s loss that these works didn t get the results they so justly deserved. Often written off as middle aged pop rock / folk nothing could be further from the truth. I picked up this album for specific tracks not thinking that I would get on with the rest...
