HART'S WAR

Upon first watching this movie, I thought it to be quite dull. The fighting was typical and uninspiring. However, as I watched, this movie had such a powerful and non-stereotypical message, that I began to follow each scene while wondering what was coming up next? The murder of the Black Army Lieutenant seemed so brutal and shocking, that I fell for the passion and emotion of the scene rather than a way to steer me away from the underlying truth of the moment. The court trial and the control of their commander (the Colonel played by Bruce Willis) was very mean and uncaring. I even wanted to set him on his can, after the way he talked to the young Lieutenant (Colin Farrell) during the second day of the trial.
As the real message and drama finally lets you in, you will become inspired beyond belief. You will be gripped by the quandary as to which side you will be loyal to (even among your fellow POW's)? Which role will you now portray, so your role will be believable and essential to help the subterfuge succeed? Will you help with the "tunnel" and keep certain secrets, or will you sacrifice your life to save another's?!? Will you really understand the plan and what role you must now play? Wouldn't you have shot the German Commander after quietly reassembling his pistol and no guards to stop you?? It would have been so easy, right? Would you come back after successfully escaping the POW camp??? hmmmmm...
If you have ever been a soldier, and if you have ever taken your role truly seriously, you understand words like "HONOR" "PATRIOTISM" "LOYALTY" and "LOVE" (yes LOVE) for our country. These words are said many times in each of our lives, for one reason or another, but as you watch this movie to its conclusion you cannot help but to believe these words capturing your complete attention and wish to live each of these words....and so much more. You cannot help but to find your eyes well-up as you remember your loved ones, even in war-torn countries, even today, and while praying for their safety and safe return to your loving arms soon. I live the word "HONOR" every day of my life and will always feel the "DIGNITY" and the "PRIDE" in my country and its people every day of my life. My wife is the same way, and these are distinct reasons we married each other.
Wow, this movie was powerful in many ways! It shows the persistence, drive and determination, as POW's worked on plans to escape. Traitors were disgusting, vile, and given the justice they deserved, but there was still someone who wanted to defend their right to trial...even back then. So many twists and turns in this movie made it a very good movie that will find its way into my DVD movie collection.
Thank you for taking the time to read this. And to those who serve, may God lead and protect you, every minute you are away from your families and loved ones!!
