Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (2006, DVD)

"Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire" is the fourth movie in the Harry Potter franchise, based on the very popular children's book series. Please do keep in mind that this movie is based on the book, which means that as good as the movie is, reading the book is better.

Before I begin, I must make one point clear. There are 2 types of people who will watch this movie: the readers and fans of the books, and the watchers and viewers of movies. Each of these two groups will have a varying opinion of this story and that is due to their level of expectation. Almost certainly you will find that the fans of the book will not like this movie very much (as so much was edited out for time-constraints), but those who have not read the books almost all love the movie for it's action and adventure.

That having been said, this movie really races along in it's fast paced action. We begin with Harry and his friends excitedly attending a huge international sporting event. We do not get to see the actual event, just before and afterwards. During the post-game party, a terrorist attack by a group known as 'Death Eaters', breaks out. The plot moves along quickly to the beginning of the school year where Harry and pals are beginning their 4th year of instruction at "magical high school" Hogwarts. Immediately introduced are a gaggle of female students from a French wizarding school and a surly bunch of male students from a Bulgarian wizarding school. One student from each school will be competing with a Hogwarts student in an inter-school competition call the Tri-Wizard tournament.

But alas for poor Harry, a happy and carefree school year is not in the cards. Under very unusual circumstances, his name is drawn to also compete in the magical tournament...one that he is underage, underskilled and underprepared to compete in. Everyone is mad at Harry for "cheating" to get his name in the competition...even his best friend Ron. Luckily things pick up for Harry when he starts winning in the competitions and at least most people are not mad at him anymore...but he has other problems...such as the very awkward position of having to ask the girl he has a crush on, to the school dance. The plot culminates right where you think it would end...Harry wins the competition but is transported right into the arms of his most evil foe, Lord Voldemort, who now is reborn with a powerful new body. From this point on, the story gets darker, as Lord Voldemort and death go hand-in-hand.

To movie-watchers, this film is filled with fast-paced action presented at a break-neck speed. Excellent special effects male you feel that you are right in the story. To book-fans, you may feel that the characters in this story are oversimplified and presented in their very base terms. There is no complexity to their roles or to the story. The book that this film is based on is long and complicated and to film it just like the book would be near-impossible, however I feel this movie could have been better. But movie-only fans seem to like it.

Along with his DVD comes a bonus disk, which includes special features. Extra footage, a self-guided tour of the school, interviews with cast and crew and games and activities equal hours of interactive fun.

When this DVD arrived, it was a used one and I had purchased a new one. The seller agreed to provide the proper DVD and pay for the return cost. However,
the seller ran out of the new DVDs and made a full refund. As to the content of the movie, Harry Potter fans would recognize that it was darker than the first two
directed by Chris Columbus and more details were omitted from the story. The
omissions make the story harder to follow and consequently more difficult for children unless they have read the book. All in all, an excellent movie for children and adults alike, but possibly confusing for younger children and maybe a bit too scary.

I have made it a family tradition to follow up with Harry Potter. When the first book came out "we" as a family read the book together and continued until the 7th book. I took my teen-aged kids to the movies whenever any of the Harry Potter movies has come out. We are looking forward to 'The Order of the Phoenix'. Verry well made movies-although I enjoy reading the book first. I'm a sucker for reading.

i really enjoyed this dvd. It was extremely action packed from the beginning to the end. The graphics are spectacular, and the story line followed the book closely, not leaving out as muc detail as the 5th dvd has.

I am a big Harry Potter fan...I have all his movies....And i have bought 4 extra serts for my grandkids....They enjoy his movies just as much as i do....

This is one of my favorite Harry Potter Movies. For the most part it fallows the corisponding book very well, and the visual effects wont let you down either. In my oppinion it is a must have in the Harry Potter Collection.

i have see all the harry p movies recently and its weird that the 1st 2 are the best i thought since the cast gets older it whould be better but its still just the same plot. over all its a good set of movie and hopefully the next 2 will be better. harry p and the (6 half blood prince and 7 deathly hallows)

I loved this movie, part 4 of the Harry Potter series. If you have seen the previous three movies, you'll love this one even more.
Great special effects, especially the Quidditch World Cup.

I bought this product because my 9 year old is a huge fan and it was the only HP movie we did not have it. It is a must have for any HP fan.

I bought this DVD because i have been keeping up with the movie series and it was needed for my collection. This one was definitely my favorite of the movies so far, the action and magic is constantly happening and it has an interesting twist to it. I haven't read any of the books so I can't give you any help on how much it relates, but if you've been at all interested in the Harry Potter things so far I'm sure you'll enjoy this installment.

This was one of the DVD's that my husband wanted for his birthday. I received it in perfect condition, just as described!

I enjoy Harry Potter and did not have Goblets of Fire in my collection, so I got it. Now I am waiting on Order of the Phoenix and the 6th an 7th movies to complete my collection. One thing I didn't like about the movie is that it left a lot out that the book explained. If you had not read the book you would have ended up with a lot questions as to why certain things happened and how the movie arrived at some points.
