Halo: Combat Evolved (Xbox)

This game was so much fun that when it first came out I must have stayed up all night playing a few times. The graphics are great & the online play is awesome..

Halo is a good game. I bought it NOT because it is one of the best games I've ever played (unlike so many of my peers, sadly), but because it is absolutely the most versatile game on the market today. Nearly everyone owns Halo if they have an XBox, so it is way easier to hook up and jam with all your friends than if one were to host a LAN party. I recognize this for what it is. Otherwise, the game itself is decent, but average. For a game that is closer to perfect (but not as versatile), check out Deus Ex for PC.

The game has an excellent story line, filled with action. You being the Master Chief, you destroy tons of enemys with various weapon selection. Nice long levels is what I really like about this game. But I am not like those Halo finatics that talked about how Halo was the best game. Its like any other shooter game I have played. But other that its recommended for your Xbox/360 collection.

Okay, that game came out for XBOX 1 but I didn't get into HALO until I played HALO 3 on XBOX360... so I had to buy HALO one and Halo 2....

The first day I got HALO 1 I couldn't stop playing it... If you're used to playing new games, the graphics might throw you off... but you get used to it.. they aint that terrible after all...

Even though this is dated, Halo has crisp graphics and well thought out boards and characters. While better played in Multiplayer mode, first person shooter will keep your heart racing and trigger finger itching.

Great Game, couldn't put the controller down. Great price as well. Just the right length and online play was fun as well

I have this game for pcbut it works better on xbox so i bought it and it seems more stable than on the pc. It is the first of the Halo games from bungee

I Purchased this video game for a second time because it had broken. Let me tell u this game is one of the best shooting games i ever played no wonder it won game of the year and its franchised and sold so many copies.

Excellent game. For those who love action and love the Halo series. This is the first and introduces you to Master Chief and the rest of the gang. My nephew is a fan and needed this to complete the series as he has Halo 2 and 3

What can you say about this game tht as not already been said a million times before, agreat game any action fan would want as part of their game collection.Great graphics will want to play again and again etc. I have played alot for shooters over the years and this is definately at the top of the best I've ever played!

Great Game True Classic Will be a collectors item in the future. Must have for all true halo fans to see how it all started.

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOT, HALO ROCKS! nuff said. its only the most famous game ever made. if you dont buy it at this price you never will. and i pity you.

Halo is a unique first person shooter game that started the beginning of a legend that later prompted develoment of two other halo games allowing the story to continue though those sequels. Gameplay improved from each game to the next and later online game play become available with the launch of halo 2 though xbox live. This increased value of the game even more. Halo started that legacy. Even now Halo still has great replay value. I would recommend this game to anyone, except those who don't meet the age requirements that the mature game rating.

Plenty of shoot 'em up type stuff going on.
But levels drag on and on and on, multiplayer feature bored me within less than an hour.

Bought this for my son he loves it and his friends want to come play with him on this game almost every day. My son is very happy with this game.

I bought the game for my kids at their request and they totally love it! They definately rate it well above version 1 and 2.
From my perspective as a parent, I can see where I now have to limit their game time. They seem quite involved with the game and, if allowed, would spend all day there. I guess the positive side is, I'm getting my money's worth out of a "toy" for once!
My boys play halo 3 online. I will say I have seen them greatly improve in their teamwork, ability to communicate with eachother and others, their hand/eye coordination has greatly improved which really helped in basketball >laughing<. I've also noticed a lot of improvement in their ability to tolerate other's and their differences as well as eachother. The game makes them make goals and work hard to achieve the goal, this has spilled over into their real life. They now plan for things they want badly and work hard to get it.
I would recommend this game hands down but be prepared to need to limit game time, your kids...and adults for that matter....will love this game!

Halo is a great first person action game for Xbox. My friends and I all play it. The graphics are pretty good. It has a wide variety of weapons.

When you get past all of the chatter about the potential of Halo looking better on a PC, and all of the yip-yap about Halo being "just another" first person shooter, and all of the lip-flapping about Halo not being able to compete with the very best games on PS2 or GameCube and you actually sit down and play the game on your Xbox...you're in for one hell of a game.

The only thing people need to be concerned about when it comes to Halo is how soon they're going to get it and where they're going to find the time to play. With a story good enough for a full length novel, audio and visual elements as detailed as any you've ever seen and excellent pacing, Halo is the reason for Xbox and vice versa. Bungie has brought to the Xbox the game that will prove hundreds of thousands of naysayers wrong (about the system and thegame) and bring sweet relief and joy to those who've been biting their nails and pacing in circles waiting for Microsoft's machine to arrive. The Story

Halo takes place in the far future where mankind is locked into a brutal war against a race of aliens known as the Covenant. These dudes are seriously evil. They wipe out entire planets at a time, and they are so fast at doing so that we poor humans are unable to get much information on them before they nuke us into oblivion.

The horde of aliens is getting closer and closer to Earth with the clock quickly ticking down before they completely annihilate our race. Finally the line is drawn. In a massive battle near a human planet, only one ship survives: Pillar of Autumn. The commander of the ship decides to lure the Covenant as far away from Earth as possible so she programs the ship's AI to jump to some random location in the opposite direction of the home system.

Eventually the ship arrives at a distant area or space where they find both a gas giant called Threshold and its small moon known as Basis. This wouldn't be so strange except for the fact that they find a giant ring construct floating between the two objects, which is about 10,000 miles in diameter. Unfortunately for the small ship, the entire Covenant battle fleet had followed them and arrived in the system shortly before.

When you boot up the game, you're knee deep in the middle of the Autumn being evacuated. That giant ring construct is Halo and the secret that it holds is the part of the story that will be up to you to discover.

Gameplay
Before we get into the nuts and bolts of how Halo plays, I'd like to share a few of the quotes blurted out in and around the IGN offices and other places as passers-by were enraptured by a glimpse of Bungie's first person superstar.

"Are those guys fighting with you?"

"Drive the Jeep! I wanna see the Jeep!"

"Damn, this feels like a movie!"

"I thought the fun part happened already."

Lol it's pretty funny and entertaining.

This game was so far advanced when it came out. Halo 2 and 3 are great as well. If you love Halo 2 or 3, you have to own this one. The game gets more dificult the futher you play it so get ready. Its nice to play through all 3 games so you can follow the story line. You can pick this up pretty cheap ($10 new at Best Buy, or even chaeper on ebay) and its backward compatable on Xbox 360 so you can play it on the newer console. This game is a must own.
