I bought the 1945 to replace my workhorse 1915 which is now in the possession of my 13 year old son. Other than the Wi-Fi capabilities of the 1945 there is little difference between the units. Both are small enough to fit in my back pocket (with a metal case) and both function well.

THe Wi-Fi on the 1945 is very easy to use as it picks up most wireless networks automatically. The screen appears to have more contrast than the 1915. The processor does not appear to be any quicker- in fact I perceive it to be a bit slower than my older unit.

All in all I recommend the unit highly for those wanting a small, dependable and easy to use Windows based system. The windows PDA apps such as word and outlook are very compatable with their desktop counterparts and other applications are easily avaliable. My main uses for it are as a dayplanner, address book and E-reader and it does all these functions quite well. As for the Wi-FI: the unit works well but most web pages are not PDA friendly. Also, HP has retired their smaller headphone plug in favor of the industry standard so there is no longer a need for an adapter.

Having been more than pleased with my prior HP pocket PC's I find the 1945 is as good as its predecessors. I insert a 1 gig SD card and have all the storage I need. The size allows it to fit in my back pocket and I have my calendar, phone book and library easily avaliable along with some tunes. It will also play some DivX video. A few extra batterys allow me to extend the use without recharging for as long as I need- even weekend camping trips.

Now the gripe: HP got cheap on the accessories for the unit. The usb/recharge cords contraption is far more cumbersome than their 1915 counterparts. The HP website does not seem to distinguish the 1945 as a different unit for accessories although it is a current item with a $299 list price. As far as I know HP has no alternatives to the included accessories and the aftermarket cradle ect are expensive and do not seem to be of the same qality that I was use to. However, although there is no reference to this fact by HP, the 1900 series accessories do fit. There is a charger cord adapter avaliable for the 1900 series and the battery charger/cradle will fit with a bit of work (the 1945 is just a bit wider than the 1900s)

I bought this pocket pc in order to have an excell spreadsheet on hand at all times. I collect DVD's and I sometimes forget which ones I have at home when I am at the store. With this device I can open up excell and now I don't have to worry about duplicats. We also use this to write down our shopping lists, keep track of meetings, and to check our emails when we are on the go. It is very user friendly and I had no problem with locating anything once it is on there as a file. The only thing I dislike is the that the stylus will sometimes click on a lower line due to the lines being thin and you have to have it right on. Overall I love it.

The HP Ipaq H1945 is the affordable solution to the sometimes crippled Palm platform read this review to see why this is an affordable fun tool/big boy/girl toy.

Pros: Removable Battery, 320X240 LCD in brilliant color, wifi, etc. etc.

Cons: Proprietary data/power connector, only includes one wireless option

The Ipaq 1945 series is a blatent answer to the newer affordable palm IV with a brilliant color screen and the new windows mobile 5.0 platform this is an obvious contender with its intuitive interface and great internet comaptability, this unit although doesn't support flash web based pages out of the box but this is easily remedied from acromedia's web site and the ability to download files is a great improvement to palms download limits and stunted browsers. The greatest feature is backwards compatability where gamers who love there classic titles such as Doom or quake and for the tech savvy there are emulator options to play your favorite nintendo games. This is to say the least the biggest bang for your buck as it is incredibly compact but at the same time features many of features of the upper models in this catagory. The only thing I can say is wrong with this model is the inherent choice between bluetooth and wifi if I were nyou I would choose wifi is is cheaper and more usefull in the long run. All in if it is treated properly this is a great choice for a multimedia pocket pc at an affordable price.

OK pocket PC, terrible screen, Get the RX3115

The first thing you will notice when you open the box is that the H1945 is very small and slim in size. It is about the size of my Palm Tungsten T when extended. I however cannot reccomend this ppc because of the screen issues. The screen has a very noticable yellow tinge when viewing from the side or below the screen. It makes the ppc feel very cheap and is very annoying since other ipaq screens are not like this. This pocketpc does not even come with a cradle. Even though I sync with bluetooth, I would still like a cradle to pop in and charge the unit. For just a little more money than the H1945 costs I bought an HP IPAQ RX3115 to replace this.
The RX3115 is a much better unit because the screen has no yellow tinge, built-in bluetooth and wifi and feels like a more solid unit.

It was just what it said it was, a broken screen iPAQ, and unusable. I could not get it to sync with my computer. The insurance was not priced correctly as was the shipping. The seller made their money from both the insurance & shipping.

PDA is amazing. It is sleek and stylish in appearance, and packs a bunch of features. The most valuable part about it to me was the WMA/MP3 support. With this PDA, and a SD card, I could play my music on long trips for hours (12 at the longest) without needing to recharge it. The ability to access the Internet with a Wi-Fi card is also a plus as I could walk around my house and be notified instantly of new E-mails or Instant Messages. Just recently I started using it as a navigator with a bluetooth GPS device. I could mount it in my car, and have it show me exactly how to get where I was going. If you had to buy a separate device for all these features (movie player, mp3 player, e-mail access, GPS, portable gaming device, etc.) you would be spending thousands of dollars; Yet somehow, HP managed to package all of this power into one, small device.

I got one for Christmas last year. I love it. It has helped so much to organize my hectic life. It keeps track of all my homework that is due, when I have tests or finals. My friends and families birthdays and anniversarys. Even their phone numbers. I use it every day. It even sinks with my computer and lets me know when I have emails. I dont know what I could do with out it. I have looked into other models and found that this one was the easiest to understand and use, and the best for my money. I definatly recommend picking one up!

I have had my IPAQ 1945 for several months now and find it to be very nice. The software works well. I have had to reset it a few times, but that is not unusual. It is slim and attractive. I have no problem carrying it and hardly notice it at all. I use it to play music, keep notes, appointments, and I have E-Sword on it so I can read the Bible. It has bluetooth, IR, and can run wireless with the appropriate SD wireless card. The battry life is all of the 8 hours advertised.
If there were a negitive it would be that (I) think it should come with a cradle. It does come with a sync/charge cable, but a cradle would have been nice.
I would recommend it to anyone who wants a really slim, lightwieght, attractive, functional, PDA/pocket pc/mp3 player.
Have a great day, and God Bless You.

Made the mistake of comparing this product with others of the same type/functions... I say mistake because had I read the reviews FIRST... I would have realized that it wasn't worth 50 buks.... It is completely unreliable in every way imaginable.... Battery, storage, frame, software.... EVERYTHING.... My Advise... DONT BUT ONE... Unless it's less than 50 dollars...

  Overall Pretty Cool Device.

So this listing was actually for the Ipaq Rx1950.
I bought the device because it seemed like a very good price for a brand new item and I always wanted one.

Right off the bat I was alittle disappointed with the memory on it. It only comes with about 30mb of free space so getting an SD card for it was a Must.
I like the Style and size of it. It's small enough to fit in you pocket without any issues (although you should put it in you pocket.)

The Great thing about this device that most people don't know, is the fact that they're pretty popular in Europe. This is great because the Europeans always make the best out of their devices. As such, you can turn this device into a Car GPS device with a few small purchases. (the mount, the GPS mouse, the software...)

All in all I'm very pleased with it. Only thing that kinda sucks about it; NO Bluetooth! What the heck were they thinking? It's got 802.11b WiFi and Infared port but NO bluetooth!

Performance
Very good. . All the programs open fast, and the windows media player is works great
-Storage
The 64 (theoretical) megabytes are more than enough to install as many programs as you want, although if you want to watch movies or listen to mp3's, you might want to think about getting a 128 or 256 secure digital card.

-Screen
Very bright with nice colors. If you look at it from below, there is a yellow tint. This bothers some people, but I personally like the yellow.

-Battery
A big plus with this PDA is the removable battery. That way, you can always replace it with another. The PDA has a built-in NMH battery, so that you will not lose any data when swapping batteries. Replacement batteries can be found for about $30. Battery life is very long, about 2 1/2 hours of watching a movie.

Pros:
Fast processor
Enough memory
Good screen
Very small

Removable battery
Lots of buttons

Cons:
non-standard audio plug (adapter included)
No scroll button on side
and slow customer service. When I first purchased the ipaq I needed a little assistance. It Was very difficult to get through to anyone and when I finally did I got transferred 3 times before anyone could answer my question.
Hewlett packards customer service could be alot better.

thanks for reading my review.

  About buying the ipaq h1945

I have a few of them myself. They are great! You can usually get them for a reasonable price and they have all the functionality of the much larger older ipaqs but in a much smaller more attractive package. Also they are a little bit snappier ( quick ) than the older models. The only thing that I dislike about them is that the headphone jack is 2.5mm and that means you must buy an adapter (around 5 bucks) for the 3.5mm jack so you can listen to your audio library.
