this is an outstanding collection of music for michal jackson. it not only opeases the generations that grew up with his music, but sets a new stage for things to come. bringing his sister in to the spectum was a brilliant plan and took great risk wich paid off. every one will enjoy these songs nomatter what age.

  The Change in Michael...Contrasting Discs
Review created: 02/28/08

This is a must have for any Michael Jackson fan or any music fan in general. The first disc is a greatest hits collection from his four Epic Records albums. I don't have to tell you how great those are.

The second disc is a bunch of new songs (for when the CD came out). This disc is great with many varying, but unified, sounds. This disc also has a much different tone to it than the first. It is angrier and more melancholy, but still quite beautiful. It seems to reflect many of the feelings MJ must have had during the time right before the CD came out. I think the two contrasting discs go well together and I highly recommend this album. The CD art and booklet are also very cool.

Why Couldn't Michael Jackson Consign his Megalomania To HIStory?
Review created: 03/23/08
by: floatingcity-- a member of Epinions and Advisor in Music

Pros:
The greatest hits portion is crammed full of enduring pop classics.

Cons:
The new studio disc is stuffed with witless ranting and tuneless beats.

In keeping with Michael Jackson s established work pattern, four years passed between the issue of his 1991 multi-platinum effort Dangerous and the follow-up HIStory a time in which his career endured some major disturbances. With allegations of child sexual abuse coming from a visitor to his Neverland Ranch and cranking public scrutiny to higher levels than ever before, the case was promptly settled out of court via a twenty million dollar payoff (but no explicit admittance of guilt; Michael persisting in stating his innocence to the present day). While a concrete belief in his culpability ..

Michael Jackson Allows His "Present" To Screw Up His "HIStory"
Review created: 08/28/04
by: speeddemon531-- a member of Epinions and Advisor in Music

Pros:
Disc One contains MJ's classics-some of the best music of the 80s and 90s.

Cons:
Disc Two contains misdirected rage, ego and paranoia.

What makes a legend? Is it raw talent? The ability to be groundbreaking? A knack for controversy? The right collaborators and influences? Or some crazy stew comprising all of these elements? Whatever the combination, even the least sympathetic music fan can admit that Michael Jackson has-or had-all of these characteristics. Whether you're talking musical or statistical, there's no doubt that he's a legend. From the second his first official single-"I Want You Back", recorded with his brothers in the Jackson 5-became a hit at the dawn of 1970-Michael was setting records and breaking them. I...

Where it all began W/O - Closet Jacko Fan Comes Out
Review created: 04/14/03
by: Guildenstern -- a member of Epinions

Pros:
A few glowing ones

Cons:
Some pretty major ones

I must admit, for the purposes of this W/O I have bent the rules a bit. I loved to buy tapes as a child, none of which I still own, and I honestly have no idea what my first tape was. It was probably Michael Bolton, Rick Astley, or even worse, Jive Bunny and the Mastermixers. Now, reviewing one of those albums under the heading where it all began was just too horrible for me to contemplate, so I decided to go with my very first CD, Michael Jackson, History. Well, my second CD actually. My first CD was a pirate collection of early Billy Ocean songs released on an obscure Spanish label, which I.

Michael tells you his history as well as HIStory!
Review created: 07/18/05
by: jbrd -- a member of Epinions

Pros:
Disc2 is excellent, disc1 has good tracks, vocals, production and lyrics.

Cons:
A good mixture of songs between the two discs.

This is collection of work comes from the most successful albums in music history. Michael is the single most awarded entertainer the world has ever known. As you listen to and enjoy his music, I'm sure you'll agree that we, his fans, are the ones who are the most rewarded.--Steven Spielberg Michael Jackson has had his spotlight. Sure, he has been in court for child molestation but really, his music is what makes us cling to him, respect him, love his music. Please don't let his personality freak you out, his music is damn worth it to respect the King Of Pop. Disc One: Billie Jean: For the...

History of Michael Jackson: HiStory Is Not A Monument In Music
Review created: 07/31/02
by: roheblius -- a member of Epinions

Pros:
A few of his best work.

Cons:
A few of his worst work ever.

MJ's mid 90's release was not without a ton of advertising. The most memorable was a commercial where people were crying and clamoring for MJ, only to show a humongous statue of the man. It gave the release a special feel, but as you know, it's the music man, the music. While HiStory wasn't a bad release, the second disc which was his new music, was filled with MJ's political beefs and his unusual production and writing. Being an MJ fan, I think he's hit or miss when he does the lion's share of the songwriting and production. But, as is with most artists, their personal work probably means...
