  fun chic flick

This movie is really cute. It's a simple plot but if you're in the mood for something fun and uplifting...I reccomend it highly! Plus is was my first introduction to Gerard Depardieu who is utterly charming in this movie. If you like Pretty Woman and movies of the like you'll probably like this movie too.

Really cute movie and what a deal!
probably not Andie Mc Dowell's best acting but it's a nice story, and the characters are endearing. If you know someone with an immagraton issue, it's a good laugh!!

I like the story line. The people that was in it did a good job at making the story have a flow to it. They were good.

  Great New York City Movie
Review created: 07/03/07

Loved all the NYC shots. The apartment is terrific - a prewar building somewhere on the west side, I think. Perhaps it is on Riverside Drive or Broadway. I think from the rooftop of the apartment I can see the top of The Dakota. If you love NYC architecture you'll love it. Gerard Depardieu and Andie MacDowell are perfectly cast. Bebe Neuwirth and the gal who plays her mother give memorable performances. I saw the movie years ago when I was in Paris and it always stayed with me as one that I truly enjoyed so I decided to get the DVD and I'm glad I did.

  Cute Movie Not Great Art
Review created: 10/11/06

This movie has been around for a few years. Andie McDowel needs a husband to rent perfect apartment with balcony garden and Gerard Depardieu is a frenchman that needs a green card to stay her. They get married to both get way they want. Then the unexpected happens, they start to have feeling for each other. It is very funny in places.

Pros:
Funny, good acting, musical score, script.

Cons:
Underdeveloped characters, not as funny as it should have been.

Imagine a meeting of two souls on their wedding day. Hearts are a-flutter, love is in the air, and all that good stuff. Then imagine two souls meeting on their wedding day. Love is the last thing on their mind. A marriage of convenience a green card for one, a greenhouse for the other. The marry, they shake hands, they part, never to see one another again. That's the sort of marriage that Environmentalist Bronte (Andie McDowell - Four Weddings and a Funeral) and Musician George (Gerard Depardieu - Cyrano de Bergerac) have at the beginning of this movie but of course, since it's a romantic...

I'd marry G rard Depardieu ... forget the green card and the co-op apartment!

Pros:
A sexy mysterious frenchman, a sappy love story, lots of romance

Cons:
Perhaps a bit too sappy and fairytale-ish for some viewers

I recently ran across a used copy of this movie in the $1.50 bin of previously viewed tapes at our local rental store ... the clerk thought I was crazy as I fairly danced to the register with it!!!! Oh such delight ... oh such romance ... oh such joy!!! I'd actually owned a copy of it already ... but loaned it to SOMEONE and can't remember who, and haven't gotten it back ... so I was thrilled to find another. I've probably watched this movie 6 or 7 times ... and will surely watch it 6 or 7 more ... and if it comes out on DVD, I'll buy that too!!!! *lol* Okay enough gushing and chatting ......

An enjoyable, but flawed romantic comedy/drama (DVD Review)

Pros:
Pleasant enough, good performances.

Cons:
Predictable, a bit overlong.

A cute 1990 romance from director Peter Weir ("Picnic at Hanging Rock", the upcoming Russell Crowe picture "Master and Commander"), "Green Card" stars Andie McDowell and Gerard Depardeau as a Manhattan couple who find themselves married for different reasons: he is French and needs a green card so that he can stay in America. She believes she will have a chance to move into a stunning apartment if she is married. The film ventures into the usual areas for the genre - the two don't like each other at first, but then start to warm up to one another (especially when the INS starts checking up on.

Pros:
After 70+ french films, Depardieu is introduced to American audiences.

Cons:
It's a chick-flick! That's not a con to me, but it is to some.

Did you want to get your husband out of your life right after the ceremony was over? Georges (G rard Depardieu) is a composer who wants to be an American citizen. He's brash, outspoken, and unrefined. He grew up in a poor neighborhood and has a somewhat cynical outlook on life. Bronte (Andie MacDowell) is a horticulturist who wants to move into an exclusive apartment where she would be caretaker of a beautiful greenhouse. She's a well off liberal who prides herself on her charity work. She fits right n with her upper-class, snobbish friends. Both tasks are much easier if they were married. A..

"Green Card" is a must see
Review created: 03/01/00

Pros:
You will believe that Macdowell and Depardieu are in love with one another off-screen

Cons:
Depardieu is often hard to understand, so you have to pay close attention

I first saw "Green Card" in the theater, and being very young at the time, I don't think that I entirely understood that I was viewing one of the best filming efforts of all time. I did, however, know that I was touched by the story of Bronte (Andie Macdowell) and George (Gerard Depardieu) who are introduced to one another at their wedding! They have arranged to be married so that George can get a green card and Bronte can move into a wonderful apartment with a beautiful greenhouse (she's a horticulturist). They have no plans to speak again but are thrust together by an impending immigration..
