Wow! Where to begin... I was in Wal-Mart and saw this title staring back at me. I read the synopsis on the back cover and knew I HAD to read it! I also knew I could find it @ half.com for a lot less. I did. I LOVED this book and have since passed it on to my closest friend. My only instruction? "Pass it on!"
To be a plus size woman in a size 2 society is difficult at best and can make you suicidal at worst. I'm not EVEN kidding! To see someone tackle this subject as adeptly as Jennifer Weiner is profoundly gratifying!
There is one other thing though... Whenever I read something like this, I always wonder how they will address their work if they should ever conquer their demons and become a size 2? I worry about that myself, as an author. If I write about what is important to me now, how will I feel about it if it later becomes less important to me?
Jennifer Weiner has absolutely tapped a market that is HUNGRY (pun intended) for works like this! Bring it on!!! We are READY on so many levels!!!
I LOVED this book. I was getting disappointed in alot of the books that I had read lately. This book really made me see that there are still good books and authors out there. I had never read anything by Jennifer Weiner. Since then, I have bid (and won) all of her books. A friend recommended her books, and I'm glad that she did! Such a wonderful book. A very quick read, I never wanted to put it down!
I purchased this for a friend and read it myself. This author is off to a great start. Her characters are believable and the writer keeps your interest page after page. An excellant book. I plan to purchase all of Weiners books.
I love thins book! One of the best books I've ever read. Just so you know it is not about sex, it is a great novel that explains how a woman can feel with the different aspects of her life, and how she deals with them. Describes a broken heart, an overweight issue, a gay reltionship around her, an absent father, work problems. Well it talks about a lot of really interesting topics that are common these days. You just have to read it. I couldnt stop reading it since I opened the book. I loved it!
I really enjoyed the book. I have read other books by Jennifer Weiner and wanted to read this one. This novel captures your attention from the beginning and keeps you turning the pages. An excellent book that I would recommend for all.
I love every book Jennifer Weiner has written. This one hit home with me in some ways it made me laugh and cry sometimes at the same time.In this book a ex boyfriend writes all about there love life in a national women's magazine. The first word he writes is"Loving a Larger Woman" .
The title caught my eye but the book is nothing like I thought it would be. It is a great book about a girl who feels very self conscious about her size. Very well written. A good look into how our actions affect how others feel about themselves.
I started this book at 9 one night, and couldn't put it down. I ended up finishing it at 5 am. I got no sleep, and all I could think about at work the next day was this book. I have since read every Jennifer Weiner book, and I can honestly say that every one of them holds your attention, and your heart, until the last page.
This is an excellent book, and an AWESOME author. I have read 2 of her books, and love them. I would recommend this book to anyone who is looking for an exciting book, and to anyone who has time to sit for a few hours. Once you begin reading her books, you don't want to put them down. You need to be ready to spend a good portion of your day reading. Great for a rainy day or snowy day!
Twenty-eight year old journalist, Cannie Shapiro, has recently taken a 'break' with her boyfriend of three years. The opening pages of the novel depict Cannie's reaction when she finds that the ex, Bruce, has written a national magazine article (complete with intimate details) about loving Cannie, a larger woman. The article spurs on Cannie's desire to lose weight and ultimately get Bruce back. Uncomfortable yet hilarious situation after situation (some involving Bruce) occurs, even ending in Cannie making an unexpected connection and friendship with celebrity Maxi Ryder. All of this while Cannie deals with a troubled childhood and insecurities of her body.
The writing was fantastic, the characters endearing and I don't think that Jennifer Weiner could have created a more entertaining first novel. RECOMMEND 5*'s
I really enjoyed reading this book, it speaks volumes on the trials of relationships and body image. I have enjoyed reading several of the authors books and have never been dissapinted.
This book was recommended to me by a friend and co-worker who actually gave me her copy to read. I liked it so much that I decided to buy a copy for my daughter to read, since I gave back my friend's book. It's a light read, but the type of book that you don't want to put down. I really got attached to the main character. Read it for yourself - you won't be sorry.
After seeing the movie, "In Her Shoes," I decided I wanted to read more books by this author. I purchased one of her four books in a book store, loved it very much, so I went on to E-Bay to purchase two more. "Good in Bed" was my least favorite book by this author, but after getting about halfway through, I decided that it was an excellent read after all. It probably is very much realistic in depicting the love life of a plus size young woman trying to cope with her body image in a world where "skinny" is in.
OH my goodness the book was unbelievable I am not much of a reader but as soon as I opened it I could not put it down It made me laugh cry and wait periodically it was just a GREAT book to sit down and read!!! I bought it because of the author I like her work and it has shown me once again how true her stories can become
I absolutely loved this book! My friend recommended this author and "Good In Bed" was the first book of hers I read. I will definitely be reading all of her novels! This book is great for any woman who has ever found herself struggling with self-image and where exactly she is going in life. It has a "feel good" attitude and it makes you laugh out loud! Loved it!
I bought this book because I have read all of Jennifer Weiner's other books. This is the first one she wrote, and I guessed that it had to be great because I absolutely loved all of her other books. I couldn't find it at my local library or for sale anywhere, so I dedcided to try ebay and...voila! There it was....and it did not dissapoint. The charachters are as real-to-life as all of her other stories, and so many parts of the book left me nodding, "yup,I know exactly what she's talking about." I laughed out loud at times, and teared up at times. Now THAT makes a great book. I was not dissapointed and I'm sure plenty of others won't be,either.
I got this book off of ebay. the reason I picked it was because the person selling it said this was similar to the writings of Jane Green. I love Green's work, and I must said that Jennifer Weiner is just as good. This is a great story about someone that has struggled with her weight, her gay mother and life in general, but it's funny- this book is awesome, and one that i would consider reading again. Like I said, if you like Jane Green, you will love Jennifer Weiners work too. I hope to read more from her soon! Enjoy the book!
" Good in Bed" is an excellent book! I laughed out loud all the way through! This book is well written and I would recommend it to anyone who loves to read light hearted, funny books!
Loved this one. As the book begins, the main characters quasi-ex gets a job writing an article for a women's magazine. His first column is about the courage to love a large woman (yes, her). Just wonderful, I was hooked after this one.
LOVE IT!!!!!!! It made me laugh and cry. I think every woman alive can relate to this book. It is a great book for the late twenties and early thirties. It is a book that you will read over and over again.
