Gold And Platinum-Lynyrd Skynyrd (CD 1990)

I do not like live recording and this one, well most of the really great music is a live recording which sounds nothing like the orginal music...sounds like they were high or drunk and forgot their own music....when I bought it it said it was studio recorded..not so it is live recordings which don't even sound close too the quality of this band...they just ramble off too nowhere land and stay there..while you try too figure out what song they are messing up again....IF you like this band and just want too hear them jam..I guess its ok..I perfer too hear the songs and relate too them, myself

If Only One Skynyrd in Your Collection - this is it
Review created: 01/04/08

Gold and Platinum is a great cross-section of a timeless band - Lynyrd Skynyrd. If you are unfamiliar with Lynyrd Skynyrd this will help. If you are familiar with them you are sure to enjoy. I especially appreciated the more less known favorites such as: "Simple Man", "On the Hunt" and "Comin' Home." The essentials are on this collection as well: "Saturday Night Special", "That Smell" and "Gimme Back My Bullets." The version of "FREE BIRD" is a live version. It does illustrate the band's incredible ability to work together.

I was grateful to find this on Ebay.

  Gold And Plarinum-Lynyrd Skynyrd/.38 Special

Love this CD-I had the cassette tape of this, but since that was well over 20 years old, I decided to splurge on the CD. I love the song "I Know A Little", and you don't find that on too many Skynyrd albums, so this is great! It is just a great selection of songs!

These two cd's cover it all. They are the songs we 40+ year olds rocked to in college! Great seller with excellent communication.

This is a great CD, it has all the best of Lynyrd Skynyrd that I can remember back in my high school days. Also the price was very good, much cheaper than buying at the store.

  Goin' South With Lynyrd Skynyrd.

Pros:
Has most of Lynyrd Skynyrd's best songs.

Cons:
No "Working For MCA", "Don't Ask Me No Questions" or "Call Me The Breeze".

Ahhh Lynyrd Skynyrd. If any other band that doesn't have the name Allman in it defined Southern Rock the way these guys did, I don't know who it is. Yes, these Florida rockers were among the leading rock bands to come out of the 1970s, upon arriving they gave us some of the most memorable (and in some cases overplayed) music of that era. Yes, Skynyrd is easily (aside from The Allman Brothers) the most well remembered of the small cache of rocks groups that emerged from the American South in the late 1960s to mid 1970s (IE: More well-remembered than the likes of The Marshall Tucker Band and...

Lynyrd Skynyrd - "Gold and Platinum"
Review created: 01/03/00
by: Mr_D -- a member of Epinions

Pros:
Great compilation of pioneering Southern Rock band!

Cons:
Most of the music is recorded live, but oh well.

Gold and Platinum was created by Gary Rossington and Allen Collins, the two surviving members of Lynyrd Skynyrd, following the band's plane crash in 1977. The 2-Album (CD) set released in 1980 - contains, basically what are still considered the best of their work. Lynyrd Skynyrd is an odd combination of folk rock, blues, southern rock, and country, a sound I like to refer to as "Redneck Rock". It's a down home, hard driving, attitude filled rock and roll voyage. On stage, they had a presence similar to bands like the Grateful Dead and Phish - These guys were a party band who could play for...

A Loud Rebel Yell o' Praise For Skynyrd

Pros:
Every song is a keeper

Cons:
Would have liked to have more band history in the liner notes

I've heard people say they don't like Skynyrd, and I can't understand why? Not the Ronnie Van Zandt fronted Skynyrd anyways. There is just a soul and a passion to the way he wrote and sang songs. Add to that a tight backing band of good ol' boy musicians, and you have some of the finest American music ever created. I would like to go on record as saying Ronnie Van Zandt is one of the greatest songwriters this country has ever produced. You put him up next to almost any of his 70's contemporaries, and he'd kick their tails both literally and figuratively. Ronnie was a tough son of a trucker,..

  Skynyrd still Rules!!!

Pros:
A GREAT BAND

Cons:
ADDICTIVE

Gold and Platnium was a Killer album from Lynyrd Skynyrd, the reddest necks of Southern Rock! I could sit and listen to this band for the rest of my days and never once tire of hearing them jam! These bad boys from Florida stirred up not only the South, but the world round. I only wish I had met "The Great Late Ronnie Van Zant", he was THE MAN! Now his brother Johnnie fronts The band and sings on his name! The Gold and Platinum album is one of my favorite Skynyrd cds. I have as many cds of the guys as I can possibly find! If ever a Band deserved credit, it was these country boys from the real.
