Pearl Jam broke through in tremendous fashion with their debut album Ten, but their follow-up put them on top of the world. Vs. shattered sales records in its first week and went onto become a rock classic. The track that led us into this excellent album was a perfect selection: Go. Go in rolls slowly but hard, letting you know that something big is about to happen. That something happens with a pounding beat that leads into Eddie Vedder's first plea of "Oh please don't go out on me/ Don't go out on me now." It ends up taking away the careers of many bands. It's almost predictable. Yet, a great deal of promising new bands are destroyed by the 'Sophomore Jinx'. And to think, Pearl Jam didn't really even release a single to radio to promote their follow-up to Ten. Their second album, eventually titled Vs. was released in 1993 with minimal advertising. Not like the band needed to spread it's name around anymore. They were the hottest thing on earth. Anything with the name 'Pearl Jam' on it in 1993 was gold. Rating a single allows me to really review the tracks on the disc, sounds like fun. :) This single contains 3 tracks: Go, Elderly Woman Behind the Counter of a Small Town (acoustic) and Alone. Go is the same edit as the Vs. album so I won't get into it much except to say it's one of the best rock songs I've ever heard. The acoustic cut of Elderly Woman sounds much like the album version except for one changed lyric. This is my favorite PJ song so having an alternate version of it is wonderful. Alone is an unreleased B-side, and one of the better ones at that. It makes a great B-side because...
