Yes, I am a Mariah fan and proud of it. And yes, after seeing the movie "Glitter" I admit that I was reluctant to buy this cd... in fact I’m ashamed to say that it took me five long years to purchase it. But after hearing two songs on the radio that were unmistakably Mariah, even to the point of wearing out the newly-released "The Emancipation of Mimi," I found that those songs were not on “Mimi” or previous albums.

A few weeks later I heard “Last Night a DJ Saved My Life” on the radio AGAIN and the tune just would not leave my head – don’t you hate when that happens?!! As I was going through a disco music stage at the time I just had to have it! (For all of you kiddies out there, Mariah’s version is a remake of a dance classic from the early 80’s). I started searching the web and also found that “Never Too Far,” the other song I instantly liked, was from Glitter.

Please do yourself a favor and look past the negative movie reviews even if you yourself had misgivings. If you are a Mariah fan you cannot and should not deny yourself this musical gem. The songs are deliciously reminiscent of 1980’s music with an undeniably Mariah flavor. I was pleasantly surprised to hear Mariah’s rendition of another 80’s classic, “I Didn’t Mean to Turn You On,” from the late great Robert Palmer. Cool, three great songs already! It’s a terrific disc to listen to at work. I enjoy the variety of disco, hip hop, and ballads. But unfortunately Mariah was going through a tough time personally at the time of this release and some of her most beautiful ballads were overlooked by incompetent reviewers in their race to jump on the Mariah-bashing bandwagon.

I believe that “Loverboy” was the only single released from Glitter. But had “Never Too Far” (for starters) had been released as a single I have no doubt that people would have taken Mariah more seriously and reviewed this and her following albums with less venom. I believe that more singles would have been released; they would have risen to the number one slots, and cemented her place in history as the number-one selling singer/act of all time. But she’s young and there’s still time for her to achieve that goal. As much as I adore Elvis and the Beatles it’s a very exciting race to watch and see if Mariah will take that extraordinary place in history.

Like her or not, Mariah Carey is the voice of our generation. And her Glitter cd sure does shine.

  Mariah Carey's Glitter: Rock Bottom
Review created: 04/24/05

Pros:
One of the ballads and when she has fun with Rick James

Cons:
When rappers attack ...

Her last solo album of original material was at the time, the only bad record she'd ever done. It was subpar material for a superstar recording artist. Rainbow saw Carey score the largest first week sales of her life, but for an album that was un-Carey like. It favored R

Glitter is just asking for the cliche "All That Glitters Isn't Gold"

Pros:
Some songs really show off the talent we all know she has somewhere

Cons:
Guest stars, backup vocalists ruin songs that have potential, inconsistant

Well, Mariah Carey has returned once again with an album simply titled Glitter after the movie that will soon be released of the same name. Her last album Rainbow was not well received by many fans so commercial success is crucial to this disintegrating diva. Unfortunately, this album was not the comeback album she needed. Is it better than Rainbow? If you compare the best moments from that album and compare it the best ones on this one this album is a better album but as a whole this one is considerably worse. I ll be honest. I wanted to like this album and write the review that was going to.

This Glitter Shines Half Of What It Should

Pros:
her brilliance shows through, ballads, flows well with movie

Cons:
guests, upbeat songs, inconsistant, tries too hard

Every now and then a major artist makes an album that is just caked with criticism as well as poor record sales. Often times they just give up and close up shop but for the truly special artists, its a sign to step up their game. One of the major cases in the last little bit has been 90 s queen Mariah Carey. Often ridiculed Carey signed with Virgin Records (insert clever comments here) after a decade long relationship with Columbia/ Sony where her now ex-husband, Tommy Mottolla, worked. It was surrounded with controversy because Virgin is where Janet Jackson has resided since the early 1990..

All That Glitters Is Not Gold (Cheesy, Isn't It?)
Review created: 08/30/03

Pros:
The ballads are really the only strong points.

Cons:
Only 15 words? Are you kidding me?

The Main Idea: After her movie of the same title bombed, Mariah Carey released the overproduced soundtrack, Glitter, to less than stellar reviews and record sales in September of 2001, and it's easy to see why. Though Glitter is an excellent concept album and a great way to honor the 80's, Mariah really isn't the right artist to sing most of its songs. The ballads are good, what you would usually expect from her, but her feeble attempts at hip-hop and disco come off as sounding completely contrived and out of place. As a devoted Mariah Carey fan, I honestly don't think this album was as bad...

The Album Virgin Records Paid $49 Million For...

Pros:
she has a decent voice still

Cons:
songs sound dated, too one theme focused

Believe it or not, there was actually a time where I liked Mariah Carey. Sure, I was twelve years old, and it was her pre-wh*re stage (you know, before every two bit rapper had had every piece of her body) and her songs were catchy and poppy, and they even had some lyrical intelligence to them. Wow, the collective groan that was just heard across the Epinions community that I, the King of Rock, used to like Mariah Carey. Well, that New Kids on the Block review won't be too shocking anymore I guess. Anyways... This was Mariah's first, and as it would turn out, last, album under her new mega...
