Ghost in the shell: My favorite Anime movie
Review created: 01/28/06

Pros:
Beautiful visuals, action, captivating music, character building.

Cons:
Not long enough.

Ever since I first saw this movie up in Humboldt I fell in love with this movie. This is currently my favorite anime movie. The main difference between anime and normal animation is the level of detail. Most Anime strive to recreate the world we live in, the physics that occur, and the people as real as possible. This makes a cartoon that seems real. The story This takes place in the Japan of the future. Technology is being infused to the human body to various degrees. At this point almost all people have some sort of computer installed in their brain stem to allow human to interact...

Mamoru Oshii s KOKAKU KIDOTAI (Ghost in the Shell) 1995
Review created: 05/26/03
by: artbyjude -- a member of Epinions

Pros:
Japanese Cast, The story, the animation. and music

Cons:
The English dubbing is atrocious, a little confusing

This interesting animated feature was a groundbreaking event in animation techniques, combining processes that have more and more become known as state of the art. The film makers had high hopes for international success and mainstream acceptance, when they released the film to theaters internationally on the same day 8 years ago. They reasoned that the popular comic on which the movie is based, would assure an audience. The audience here has been slow to catch up, although many of you knew about the movie and its accomplishments long before I did! This movie is not intended for children, so..

Of Minds and Machines, and the Ghost in the Shell
Review created: 09/14/07

Pros:
beautiful animation, great story, interesting themes

Cons:
not really terribly subtle

Ghost in the Shell is a legend among anime aficionados (and I ve gotta admit that, much as I d like to be, I can t really be counted in that number). Based on the manga written and drawn by Masamune Shirow, and directed by Mamoru Oshii, Ghost in the Shell (GITS) is one of those handful of great works that fuelled the surge in popularity of Japanese animation in the west in the late twentieth and early twenty-first century. It s high concept, it s beautiful to look at, and it s quite possibly one of the best distillations of cyberpunk ever to grace a screen. In case that didn t make it clear,..

"I think, therefore I am" - Ghost in the Shell
Review created: 04/19/05
by: bangj -- a member of Epinions

Pros:
Great animation, Complex and deep story, great action.

Cons:
Story is confusing

For those of you who believe that we are slowly creating a world that at one point was only possible in our minds or told in an entertaining format. Look no further, Masamune Shirow s (creator of Appleseed), Ghost in the Shell deals with the possibilities of a world that has given beings of circuitry and synthetic a conscience. The story is extremely complex and might require repeat viewings to totally understand. The year is 2029; the world has become boundless by the net. Humans have become cybernetically augmented beings that live, in a virtual world. Here they are monitored by law...

There's Nothing Like A Naked, Gun Toting, Beautiful Mercenary To Brighten Up Your Day

Pros:
Complex story, cool characters, crisp animation, VERY COOL fight scenes

Cons:
Slows down in many areas, poor character development, may be hard to understand

For the longest time I've heard stories of how I am missing out on some incredible anime called "Ghost In The Shell". I being a fairly big otaku, couldn't believe that at the time I could pass this up. So I quickly borrowed the VHS from a friend of mine and watched it. Actually, I watched it twice because with the film being a mere 82 minutes long, you can. What began as a search for a Friday Night film, ended as a 164 minute film fest of cyborg pursuits, invisibility suits, and hackers. I was just startled at how much could be put into such a short movie. Lemme just try and get it across to..
