Get Your Wings - Aerosmith (Cassette 1993)

Aerosmith Earns Their Wings (Aerosmith W/O)
Review created: 03/24/03

Pros:
bluesy hard rock done right

Cons:
too short...much too short

After the success of their debut record, thanks mainly to Dream On and Mama Kin, Aerosmith looked to really go for the juggular on their second album, titled Get Your Wings. Get Your Wings is a fiery blues rock album that shows a band still in it's developmental stages of figuring out who they are and exactly what they want to sound like. By the time the band was done recording it, they not only had a better feel of everyone's role in the band, but because of the experience recording it, one can only assume that this album became the catalyst for what many people feel are the band's two...

Pros:
The production and performances are incredibly, unbelievably strong.

Cons:
Problem...what problem?

INTRODUCTION Hello, everybody. This is John Bishop typing, the DeadMilkboy of Epinions.com. Before I launch into the following review, I d like to mention that this is part of a series of reviews I m writing based on one of the greatest American rock n roll bands in history, AEROSMITH! I d like to thank Aerocat (another Arizona native, bless her soul) for giving me the chance to do something other than write reviews of classic B-movies and current CD/DVD releases, and besides AEROSMITH F*CKING ROCKS! Posted here is the URL to Aerocat s official Epinions.com Aerosmith Write-Off page, and a...

  Aerosmith in the raw!
Review created: 06/18/02

Pros:
Aerosmith's best work

Cons:
Only 8 tracks, I think they moved "Seasons of Wither"

Ahhhhh, Aerosmith. This is one of the very first rock bands I got into as a young punk, and for a while there I had the entire Aerosmith collection on 8-track. OK, stop laughing, it seemed like a good idea at the time! Aerosmith was formed in the early 70's on the east coast. The band released it's first album ("Aerosmith") in 1973, and it was the albums hit single "Dream On" that generated a lot of interest in the band. "Aerosmith" was a good album, but the band had not really developed their trademark sound and songwriting abilities, and the album was not received well with the critics,...

  Flying with wings
Review created: 05/05/03

Pros:
'Seasons of Wither', raunch-rock, more mature song-writing.

Cons:
In hindsight there are some dated tracks, but that's a rubbish critcism really.

Following on from the debut album was never going to be an easy task for Aerosmith but they have done a fairly admirable job here. The appetite and endeavour is still very evident but the naievty has been replaced by a genuine maturity in performance and song writing. The highlights are wide ranging. 'Seasons of Wither' is an outstanding ballad; the applause of a live crowd gradually dies out giving way to the sound of the wind patrolling a desolate landscape. Once the scene is set in your mind, a lone guitar guides you to a troubled Steven Tyler who curses the loss of a love and the feeling..

  Aerosmith gets their wings
Review created: 11/28/99

Pros:
A fantastic album.

Cons:
None, this is a classic

Edited 3-24-00 Aerosmith's second album, along with their next two albums, would literally reshape American rock music forever. This album is where they first showcased their trademark sound. Even though Get Your Wings is a quarter of a century old, it is as relevant today as it was in 1974. That is quite an accomplishment, and one that few bands can match. I enjoy listening to all eight songs on this album. At thirty-eight minutes in length, this album goes by fast, so I usually have to listen to it two or three times in a row. If fans of the modern Aerosmith sound would like to know where...
