Wonderful movie about the actual dealings with our native americans and how they fought to keep their land. The cultures of the wild wild west. Great cowboys and indians show.
This is an epic western beautiful to look at. The actors are wonderful, and the story is believeable. It is my favorite story of the conflict between native americans and the U.S. government.
I purchased this DVD because: 1) I like Robert Duvall in just about any role. 2) I have close ties to the Native American Community and I believe that this movie does tell some real truths about Geronimo, his life and his death. He was a great warrior and will always be remembered amoung his people as a great Apache Leader.
I believe that the movie was presented much as life was really like in Geronimo's life time. Life was hard and the government used deception and force to deal with the people.
I bought the movie because I like the actor Robert Duvall. It's been awhile since I watched it. I did like the movie, it was a little long. It had some interesting points in it. I not sure exactly how accurate it was, but it sounded real. All the actors were good.

Pros: Presentation of a true injustice to humankind
Cons: Presentation of a true injustice to humankind
After watching this movie 4 times I am still waffling over the review. Seldom do I find a movie I cannot give a review ~ even a bad review ~ on. In order to do justice to this one it would entail one that was so cumbersome that most would not read it. I will instead outline the characters, for they ARE the movie. Jason Patric - Lt. Gatewood, a soldier from the South'. Gatewood has a unique role in this drama. Coming from the defeated South, he feels few ties to the new' United States, but does have a sense of loyalty to the Army. He has also formed a bond with Geronimo, respecting him as a...

Geronimo vs. the Blue Coats!

Pros: The cast, especially Wes Studi, Gene Hackman, and Robert Duvall.
Cons: The film's tone is overly P/C. Don't take it entirely at face value.
"Geronimo" claims to be 'based on a true story'. I suppose that's true in a general sense, but it's also current day Hollywood political correctness gone mad. The movie portrays Apaches as peaceful, honorable people who only want to be left alone. Once again, I suppose this is true in a general sense. But, what Apaches really wanted to be left alone to do was to prey on their neighbors, something they'd been excelling at for several centuries. The Spanish and later Mexican military was never able to deal effectively with them. One solution that was tried was paying bounties for Apache scalps..
