Great reference book!Wonderful color photos of gemstones include color variations and cuts as well as printed information. Very handy size. If you only buy one, buy this one!

I found this book very helpful in identifying gemstones I had purchased. I'm not a professional so any help I could find was needed and this book provided everything I was looking for to identify gemstones. The color photos of a variety of gemstones is very helpful and each identifying heading refers you to other sections to cross reference. This book contains color descriptions, hardness, density, chemical properties and refractive index lists along with a section on terminology and history of gemstone deposts and processing. I highly recommend this book to anyone interested in gemstones professionally or as a hobby.

THIS IS IT! THIS IS THE BOOK YOU MUST HAVE WHEN YOUR INTEREST IS GEMSTONES. NOT ONLY IS IT RESPLENDANT WITH LOVELY PICS TO AID IN IDing STONES, IT HAS ANCIENT LORE ABOUT THE INDIVIDUAL STONES, AND IT ALSO HAS THE ORIGIN OF AND EVERY DIFFERENT COLOR AND HUE THAT A PARTICULAR STONE COMES IN. IT LISTS ABSOLUTELY ALL OF THE SPECS LIKE RI, READINGS ON STONES WITH SPECTROSCOPES, AND SPECIFIC GRAVITY. I CAN NOT STRESS THE VALUE OF THIS BOOK, BOTH FOR THE NOVICE AND THE SCIENTIST AS WELL...IT IS VERY EASY READING THO. VERY INTERESTING STORIES..ABOUT TECHNIQUES AND COUNTRIES OF MINING AS WELL AS CUTTING AND FACETING. THIS BOOK HAS A MORE COMPLETE COMPILATION OF GEMS AND MINERALS, EVEN, THAN AN OTHER BOOK I KNOW OF...I WOULDN'T BE ABLE TO OPERATE WITHOUT THIS BOOK.
