The program was well done, informative and evocated many memories from my childhood. I purchased the video set to share with my grandson.

Pros:
The Comprehensive work on the space program

Cons:
More detail for me....

From the earth to the Moon tells the whole story of America s space program. If a person combined the first couple episodes of Earth to the Moon with Tom Wolfe s The Right Stuff, you would have a brilliant beginning. Next replace the Apollo 13 episode of ETTM with the Hank s movie Apollo 13 and then let the rest speak for itself. That would be the perfect mix. Several of the episodes of ETTM I have watched over and over again. A particular favorite is Spider, which tells the story of the creation of the LEM vehicle by the Grumman Corporation. Matt Craven who was brilliant played the head of...

Go On a Voyage From the Earth to the Moon
Review created: 10/27/00

Pros:
Fascinating stories, good historical accuracy

Cons:
Some language, a few dull spots (about 20 minutes of 11 hours)

Space had become somewhat passe'. Then Ron Howard made Apollo 13, Tom Hanks won an Oscar playing the mission's commander Jim Lovell, the movie was a critical and box office success, and a wave of nostalgia made space hot again. His own interest piqued and the iron piping hot, Hanks pitched HBO an idea for a mini-series: a retrospective telling the story of the Apollo missions in a docudrama style, similar to the movie. The idea eventually became the 12-part series, From the Earth to the Moon, based in part on the book, A Man on the Moon. First off, this is a fabulous series. The 12 original..

  Excellent DVD package

Pros:
Wonderful acting, storytelling, pure adventure

Cons:
12 hours of it.

From Earth to the Moon is a wonderful DVD presentation of the critically acclaimed HBO series, and no collector of space or DVD's should be without it. Chronicling the story of NASA and its challenge of bringing America to the Moon, the story unfolds smoothly, with each mission from the tragic Apollo 1 right through the last moon visit treated as being just as important as Neil Armstrong's first, tentative steps on our sister world. The DVD presentation is very well done, supporting Dolby 5.1 - though there isn't a lot of rear channel effects - each rocket launch is glorious, with deep...

  A miniseries masterpiece
Review created: 11/27/00

Pros:
Excellent centerpiece to a space film collection

Cons:
comes as a complete set and will cost you at least $75

When HBO first ran commercials and previews for From the Earth to the Moon in late 1997 (Christmas) I knew I would be watching that spring when it began. I must confess, I am a NASA junkie - I go to the website often and I love to read/see just about everything I can concerning NASA and space exploration. I already was a fan of other "space race" films Apollo 13 and The Right Stuff (a favorite from my childhood) and this miniseries would be as good things could get for me. Episodes From the Earth to the Moon was spread out in 12 separate Episodes covering the whole of the Apollo program which.

Pros:
Best Apollo film series ever

Cons:
It is too short!

When From the Earth to the Moon first aired on HBO a couple years ago, I watched it as a matter of course. After all, I grew up reading the newspaper clippings of what has to be mankind's greatest achievement, putting a man on the moon. The set comes in a handsome display case that holds six tapes, each in its own sleeve. The cassette sleeves are designed in such a way that they form a picture when placed into the larger case in the correct order. Each individual sleeve has a protective cover flap that opens to reveal a small summery of each of the two episodes on the tape. Each of these 12...
