It's hard to say what stands out about this album compared to Tori's other works. It's very consistant and flows well and stays true to what we've come to expect from Tori. I don't know if this would be a good place to start if you are new to Tori's music but this is a must own if you are a fan.
I absolutely adore Tori Amos!! She has a very original and unusual voice that lends itself to her way of wailing about life...she moves me! I bought this cd because (1) it was really discounted (2) I needed to add another Tori Amos cd to my collection and (3) Tori Amos puts me in the right mood, a good mood.
This CD is simply one of the best Tori Amos CDs I've ever listened to. The acoustics are great the sound is awesome and she delivers one great song after another. I've listened to this in my car for over 3 months and have yet to grow tired of it. It isn't a hit or miss either every single song is great. For you folks who have sub-woofers in your car and like to make good use of it this CD will give your sub-woofer a good work-out. Strong DEEP bass and a nicely layered recording make this CD a must have for any Alternative Music fan. In previous recordings of Tori Amos that I've listened to her lyrics and music seemed dark and to be honest a little depressing, but this CD proves that Tori Amos is flexible and is not at all dark or depressing. My personal favorite song on the CD is titled "Spark" which combines a nice mixture of witty lyrics with great bass guitar, drums and keyboards. This is the BEST Tori Amos CD I've ever heard period.

Sparked My Interest In Tori Amos

Pros: Good songs, ethereal vocals, amazing electronic and acoustic elements...
Cons: A few clunkers...
Tori Amos has in the course of a decade made it known that she s not a chick to be messed with. Her image is soft and ethereal, but her words and her voice are unbelievably rich and evocative (often bordering on angry). She is one of a few solo artists from the last decade who will be remembered fondly by generations to come. Born and raised in North Carolina, Myra Ellen Amos (Tori s real name) developed an affinity for folk music early in her life. She played piano and sang by the time she was four and soon thereafter she added songwriter to her list of skills. It seems that from birth, Ms...

An enjoyable stay in Tori's Hotel

Pros: Dark, diverse and memorable. Great production and arrangements.
Cons: A couple of tracks are a little weak in comparison to the others.
Arguably the biggest surprise in Tori Amos catalogue, From The Choirgirl Hotel shows her taking a break from her long-standing girl and a piano set-up and re-categorises her as an individual within a band. That s not to say that Tori has slackened or diminished her input; but rather that the influence of other musicians has enabled her to craft denser, more fleshed out songs that rely as much on keyboard, guitar and drums as they do on piano. In fact, this is easily the most commercial album she s recorded (excluding Y Kant Tori Read ), and many of the songs here could find comfortable homes..

Tori Discovers Electronic Music & Kick Out Some Jams

Pros: An Excellent Album from Tori Amos.
Cons: Some might be aliented with her descent into electronic music.
When Tori Amos arrived to the music scene in 1992 with her debut album Little Earthquakes , she helped give notice to a new wave of female singer-songwriters that would dominate during that decade. Little Earthquakes and her 1994 sophomore album Under The Pink both sold well and won critical acclaim as Tori Amos was becoming one of the most promising artists of Alternative Rock. In 1996, Amos released an ambitious and experimental album titled Boys For Pele that received good reviews but some of her fans found the album too ambitious since Amos was trying to experiment with different musical..

From The Choirgirl Hotel Tori Finds Sparks and Strength

Pros: Dreamy blend of Tori's voice, poetry, piano, and electronic instruments.
Cons: Some tracks are hard to understand.
It is not easy to classify Tori Amos and just when critics alike were starting to perhaps come to a conclusion she throws in their face From The Choirgirl Hotel. Like Madonna, Tori has reinvented herself but she still holds on to various trademarks that make Tori unlike anyone else. It is interesting however to examine both albums by Madonna and Tori. On the first track of Madonna s album Ray of Light, Madonna ponders her life in relation to be a celebrity. On the first track of Tori s album however, Tori openly discusses the pain and hardship she s felt in relation to having a miscarriage....
Cons: what is you talking about you muthaf*ckin fool?
Some of you know that I was starting to get interested in Myra Ellen Amos (Tori's real name) and that I picked up her latest album (her collection aside), Scarlet's Walk, and I was pretty impressed. So on Monday I asked my parents to take me to Best Buy so I can get the CD I am reviewing. No, I still didn't get Little Earthquakes and that was because unlike her other albums, I did hear songs from this album (Spark and Raspberry Swirl). As it's mentioned so many times, this is where Tori avoided the girl and piano image
