Free Money to Pay Your Bills by Mary Ann Martello, Matthew Lesko (2003)

This book has lists of grants, loans and free money available. The only problem is the qualifications are to resticted and narrow, the majority of people won't qualify. For the cost of the book definately not work it.

The book contains some relavant informtion, but it's only about 20% of the book. The rest is just a bunch of public data and government office and phones numbers. They have marketed the book very well via "info-mercials",so the hype is there, but once you get the book you'll be disappointed. Don't get me wrong the is a usefulness to the materail, but a little research on the net and you can get all the info in the book. Gald I waited until I got it on ebay, and least I got a deal on it. I feel bad for people that bought it via TV, och!

I am very disappointed with this one. I spent a lousy few dollars ordering this book and I never recieved the book. I did everything possible for tracking, they kept saying that it was sent. I should have gotten the book and I never did. I'm very disappointed. I will never order from this one again.

A multitude of valuable resources in this book. Some common sense and some surprising. This is a great reference guide because you never know when you might need that extra $$. Great for homeowners, students, single parents, elderly and disabled. Many programs have been around for a long time but finding them is another story and this book has covered all the bases.
Surely there is something for everyone.

This book is horrible if you actually have a decent job and know how to manage your money. Every single part of this book from cover to cover is about low income to no income people. If you don't qualify for Medicaid, Medicare, or WICK don't bother with this book, you're wasting your time.

This book is incredibly filled with phone numbers and addresses for different programs but unfortunately 99.9% of them where non-applicable to me. Many of the programs sounded great though. It is hit or miss with this book. It warns you that by the time you get a hold of the book, many of the info is out-dated because government offices and programs get moved around or absorbed by other offices/programs, or change their name so you have to be willing to make mulitple phone calls to track down the right department to get the info you want. Also, many of these programs will have a lengthy waiting list that can literally last years. Overall, its a great reference book and a good STARTING point. This may not lead you directly to getting money, but it will definately allow you to determine if any of these programs are applicable to you and you can deside if they are worth pursuing. NOT for the person that just wants to get free money just for the heck of it.

All I can say about any book by Matthew Lesko is that the information that he provides is totally invaluable. There are thousands, perhaps millions of books by different people on many of the same subjects, but they hold back way too much. I feel that Matthew Lesko, while he is intending to make money with the books that he publishes, is truely sincere in wanting to help others to get grants to help them improve their lives. It is obvious that this is what he enjoys while he is also making a living at it.

I have recently purchased many of his books and DVD's, etc. and some of them wind up having alot of the same information, but each one also has some information that the others do not have, and he also gives you ideas on what to do once you have gotten your grant money or other forms of assistance.
Such as, if you get a government grant to start a business, that means that the government gives you the money to set you up in business, but then he also gives you info on how to get Government Contracts so that the Government also buys your products and/or service, so they set you up in business and then become your customer!!!! He'll tell you how to go about doing all of this in some of his books. He will guide you on where to go to find the programs that you are looking for to help you do what you want to do and then tell you who to talk to and what to say and what to ask for.

Every American should have this book and other books by Matthew Lesko.
You work hard, you pay taxes, and there are immigrants that come to this country that have never worked here a day in their lives and therefore have never paid taxes, and the Government gives them hundreds of thousands of dollars of our hard earned tax dollars to start their own businesses.
(and this is not meant to be a negative remark against immigrants in any way)
But I believe that if you have worked hard all your life and always paid your taxes, then you deserve to reap the benifits that the government and other organizations are offering. If someone who never paid taxes are getting it, then the rest of us sure as heck should!!!!!

yes, it will take some reading and studying and some work and phone calls on your part and filling out applications and writing grant proposals, etc., but nothing worth having comes free and easy. So if you have the initiative to want to make your life better and do more that you want to do and aren't afraid to put the effort into it, then this and other Lesko books are for you!

I really enjoyed and got a lot out of some of the other books by Mr. Lesko. This one is written along the same lines. It's easy to read and, though it's huge, you can get through it quickly mainly because information is divided by your state of residence in many areas leaving only the first part of each chapter and your particular states entries as what you need to read. His examples are always interesting and even entertaining. Also, yes, the information here can be found on the internet, but they book convienently puts it all in one place and does it with full contact information. All of that said, this book is not quite as useful as the title would suggest.

Buy or borrow this book if you are a traditional college student or the parent of one, if you are going back to school yourself, if you are unemployed and looking for work or thinking about some sort of retraining or starting your own business, if you are a veteran and especially a disabled veteran, or buy/borrow it if you are disabled at all. The book is the most help to readers that fall into at least one of these catagories. If that's not you, you'd be better off with one or more of Lesko's other books.

Finally, the book does advertise that you can get free money to pay your credit card bills. Many people seem to feel mislead by that statement; possibly rightly so. Mr. Lesko states in the book that much of this money is available to pay "living expenses" and that credit cards bills are a part of living expenses. He does not advocate asking any government agency to hand you money to pay your credit card bills and he says so specifically.

Most of the things in this book are common knowledge for people who are really searching for help. Not a lot of unknown info here. There are some useful programs listed in the book but I definitely would not spend the price listed on the book's website. They are legitimate programs and I will give the author that one but you can call your local government agencies for a lot of the info. All information in one place however.

OK - lots of people complain about this book. The fact is, there IS grant money out there for just about anything - AND JUST ABOUT ANYONE. Does it fall in your lap ? NO !! But this book DOES give you thousands of sources, to look for it ! I found some. If you are willing to use it as tool, and NOT a Pot-Of-Gold... this book can definitely help you.

I bought this item to replace one I had lost. I loved the fact that the description of the item was right on and when I received the item it was just that. And when you get exactly what you want in a timely manner , it's a great feeling.

I started off buy reading every last detail in the opening instructions. In this opening it states from lesko himself that thought there is money out there for people to get he is not teling the whole story in reguards to how hard it is to get this money. It goes into the fact that you will need to amost beg for the help, and that crying would maybe help your case. I got this book because it said that there are grants in this book for woman that want to go to college for business (which I want to do) but thought my household is a one income household, we still make to much for any help.

i bought this book because it promised money to pay off credit card debt. i never did find anything about paying off credit cards and will donate this book to the library. maybe someone will find something in this book they can use. wished i had held on to my money!

Lots of pages of covering information you can get elsewhere for free and/or easier, for example drug company discounts. Lots of pages, yet not that many actual topics. Not especially current. I doubt whether this type of book/format is even viable in the age of internet searches. Not worth the money.

The book is only for the very poor or disabled and the programs listed are not new or unheard of. The title and advertising are very misleading and I was very dissappointed with my purchase.

DID NOT FIND ANYTHING HELPFUL IN THIS BOOK FOR MYSELF. IT HAS GREAT INFORMATION FOR LOW INCOME FAMILIES AND VETERANS. I BOUGHT THIS BOOK BECAUSE I THOUGHT IT WOULD BE FUN TO GET FREE STUFF. UNFORTUNATELY IT DID NOT HAVE ANY INFORMATION THAT THE AVERAGE JOE DOESN'T ALREADY KNOW.

I have not received the merchandise as of yet and I have e-mailed the seller at least twice to notify them (darlahenry@hotmail.com)of this but my payment has been taken for weeks now! Is there something else that can be done about this? I am not satisfied at all.
