This really belongs up there with the greatest movies of all time. It is hard to imagine who hasn't at least heard of this movie, but if you are about to see it for the first time, you have a treat ahead of you.
I have loved this movie from the first time I viewed it at the theater. Our family refers to favorite scenes and we repeat some of the lines such as "Life is like a box of choclates you never know what your going to get..." quite often. So a few months before Christmas my sister and I were talking, about some of what we think are really great parts of the movie "Forrest Gump". My sister said " I'm going to ask my husband to find a copy of this movie, so we can watch it again". I decided then that "Forrest Gump" would be one of her Christmas gifts. I knew our whole family would enjoy watching it again and again. She was very happy with her gift. A few days after Christmas one evening we decided to watch the movie. As usual we laughed and we cried at the different scenes. The biggest surprize (and extra gift) came when in the middle of the movie my 12 year old grandaughter said,"Why is everyone so mean to him when he is so sweet" we looked and she had tears in her eyes. That is when we realized that she had never watched, "Forrest Gump", before. I told her there would always be people in the world who couldn't see beyond a person's disablity or a person's being different from others. Which is why we should never "follow the crowd" or judge too quickly. We should get to know the individual because like those "choclates" you never know what your going to get and if we fail to do that we may miss something or someone really great. And even if you don't like someone after you get to know them there is still no reason to treat them so badly because that just makes you seem ugly. The best thing to do is just stay away from people you don't like or can't get along with because life is hard enough on us all without people causing each other more grief. There are lesson's of life that can be learned from Forrest both the way he was treated by some people and the way that he dealt with it. Also in the way he dealt with life in general. Yes, I know that Forrest is a fictional person but that statment is still true. I don't think any other actor could have brought Forrest to life as well as Tom Hanks. We will always love Forrest and we will watch this movie over and over. Everyone with children old enough should buy and watch this movie with them. Then I don't think there would be so many bullies around and it may help them learn to respect people even when they are different or disabled.
Although a simple minded man. He has character, he is principled and is led and driven by those principles. He is a good person. I love this movie because all to often we think, the more intelligent a person is, the better or more important they are. But this movie shows that you don't need that in order to be important and good.
The story of Forrest Gump is truly one-of-a-kind. You have never seen a movie like it. And perhaps never will again. Forrest takes you on a little journey telling various incredible stories about his life experiences. And what a life he has had. A few of his stories amount to nothing more than dumb luck. Some stories teach you a thing or two about life and love through the eyes of Forrest Gump. His unconditional & undying love for Jenny is really cool. He has traveled the country far and wide. He even has stories about being in the military. The imagination of Forrest Gump has a very wide range. The life experiences are unparalelled. This movie is a MUST SEE before you die. Life just wouldn't be complete without having seen Forrest Gump. You will laugh. And you will cry. Mostly laugh though. But I can assure all 17 people that haven't seen this movie are really missing something. It is one for the DVD collection for all times! Enjoy!
I love this movie....it's very honest and sincere...action packed and funny...Tom Hanks does a wonderful job in creating Forrest...his adventures are truly amazing...

FORREST GUMP : The Greatness Of Staying Innocent

Pros: Superb acting and great writing keep you hooked to the screen.
Cons: Minor things, too small to even mention.
The protagonist is a word I learned early on in English class. Protagonist means leading figure in a work of drama. In many films there is a main character but he is overshadowed by the plot of the film. In this film, Forrest Gump is the film, he makes it all work. This happens with the genius of Tom Hanks who transforms himself into the character of Forrest Gump. He does it so well that we start to feel for Gump as if he were our own child or relative. Its nice to watch a movie where you see yourself rooting for things to go well for the main character. It is only a film yet it was so well...
Aside from all of the moral philosophy, the biggest plot point of Forrest Gump is that if the title character had really existed, he would be the most important person of our time. Not only did he invent Elvis Presley's highly censored leg performance movements; he was a war hero who won the Congressional Medal of Armor; he was the best runningback in the history of the University of Alabama; he improved relations with China through his ping pong skills; he created a shrimping business that became a household name (which is remarkable, as there is no shrimping business that is a household...

Pros: Tom's acting was good
Cons: my whole review is about the cons of this overrated waste of time
Why in the world does everyone like this movie so stinking much? Even people who I consider to have good taste in movies love this flick while I just don t get it. Maybe it just didn t click with me somehow; it was a struggle for me to even get to the end. When it was over the only thing I could think of was, I ll never get those 2 hours of my life back. The only half-decent thing to come out of the movie was a Weird Al parody song/video. I usually don t review movies without also reviewing DVD extras and such, but I m making an exception for carl_lazarevic's "I m Sorry but You re Just Plain..

Movie of a Generation

Pros: Beautiful epic with no pretensions
Cons: none
Forrest Gump is a movie that tells the tale of a generation. Forrest Gump, the character, is in many ways the embodiment of the Baby Boomer generation. He is in love with the reckless idealist, he has an extraordinarily naive and uncynical view on life, he works hard and believes the best about people. We're amazed when everything turns out right for Forrest, his dogged faith in people pays off, his mourning heals him, and his steadfast values see him through. And yet, how better to characterize the sometimes tragic, but mostly exuberant generation of Boomers? While Forrest remains an...

I Love Getting Lost in this Forrest!

Pros: Forrest Gump may not be too "bright," but he has a heart of pure gold and more wisdom than most of us could hope to possess
Cons: some swearing and violence (especially the war scenes)
"Life is like a box of chocolates: you never know what you're gonna get." This quote from "Forrest Gump" became a household phrase when the movie came out five years ago. Based on a book by the same name which I understand has a much harsher protagonist, this movie is a historical documentary, comedy, drama, action, and romance all rolled into one. And it has proved many times over to be more than the sum of these impressive parts. Tom Hanks ambitiously took on the project despite the doubts of producers and directors. To everyone's astonishment, when given a choice of being paid a lump sum...
