I was driving around looking for a CD I knew would make the perfect gift for someone. After two non-successes, I realized... EBAY!!! I went out, got it for a third the retail price and it WAS the perfect gift. Whey my friend asked where I got it... "eBay, of course!"
The show is a gentle spoof of the white pop groups of the 1950s and early 1960s -- mainstream pop music as represented by the Four Lads the Four Freshmen or the Four Aces, not doo wop! I saw two different productions of it staged by different directors several years ago and was finally inspired to look for a copy of the soundtrack album after seeing the sequel, "Plaid Tidings," which recycles almost all the ideas from "Forever Plaid" as a Christmas-theme show, last month (November 2007). This soundtrack album is an excellent memento of the production and entertaining listening in its own right.
My wife and I saw the play recently and loved it. It was one of the very few plays we have seen that received an enthusiastic standing ovation. The harmonies and the songs that we had not heard in many years were amazing. While a CD cannot project the magic of the live performance, it is still tops. Highly recommend it to anyone of any age. This is really great music!
