I purchased For Love of the Game as a gift. I very much enjoy the movie and am very happy with my purchase and have enjoyed watching the movie. Would recommend the movie to anyone.
This is one of my favorite Kevin Cosner movies. We received it quickly and in excellent shape. We buy a lot of DVDs through Half.com for the price. We were so NOT disappointed!
I love baseball movies. This one was even better becuase it was a love storie. I love everything about it. Kevin Cosner is one of my favorite actors now that i saw this movie.
It's a good movie, not only does it include sports but there is a love story that the movie and even the game is based around. So the movie is good for both men and women, sports and non-sports fans alike.
In the modern day baseball era of trades and free agency, Kevin Costner plays an aging pitcher who has played his entire career with the Detroit Tigers. With the team's sale to a corporate group now complete and their intentions of trading him revealed, Costner must decide whether to continue pitching for a new club or let this be his final game. The movie covers his career through flashbacks while covering the game at hand.
Costner does an excellent job on the mound and looks natural in his delivery. For anyone who is tired of their team having completely overhauled the roster every spring, this is a refreshing story that seems to harken back to a more traditional time in the game. As an added touch, the present day storyline takes place at the Big Ballpark in the Bronx.
The movie does a good job exploring his on-again, off-again relationship with Jane Aubrey (Kelly Preston). Overall, on of the best baseball movies around.
I actually bought the movie as a gift for my daughter who had seen it many years ago. She had mentioned that she had been looking for it and had not been able to find it at any stores so I was able to find it on Ebay. She was very surprised and absolutely loves the movie. She is one of those people who will watch and re watch a movie, so it was well worth the money.
It's a good movie with romance, love and passion for baseball. It shows that it's hard sometimes to choose between hwo we love and what we love... I like it. It's worth seeing!
Blah, Blah, Blah, another formulaic tear jerking movie that should have ended with the pitcher being pulled in the 4th inning, or not starting at all. Just once I would like to see a reality movie, pitcher turns 40, decides to go all the way and it is not in the cards, he feils and no one remembers, the fans boo him for losing the big game and he ends up openig an insurance company in Deleuth.
Come on Kevin try and keep it close to real.
Another version of The Natural, which was just as bad.
He did not know that Glen Close's son was his?? DUH?
I love Kevin Costner and I love movies with great endings. You will not be disappointed with this movie. It has the suspense of a baseball pitcher pitching a "no hitter" in the last game of his career. He reflects back about his life with each breath and each pitch. A very touching love story. For love of the game (baseball) and the love of a girl. IT IS A FANTASTIC FEEL GOOD MOVIE!

For Love of the Game - December is a Great Time for a Baseball Movie!

Pros: chemistry between Costner and Preston, great cinematography on baseball scenes
Cons: plenty of clich s
I've been a baseball fan all my life, and a diehard Mets fan all that time. There are few films about baseball that don't speak to me on some level, and For Love of the Game is no exception. Kevin Costner is Billy Chapel, a pitcher getting near the end of his career with the Detroit Tigers. Nolan Ryan excepted, pitchers don't tend to have careers as long as other players. Catchers either, although they can sometimes make a transition to a different position. When team owner Gary Wheeler (portrayed by Brian Cox) visits Billy in the clubhouse prior to the final game of the season, he talks...

Sam Raimi's For Love Of The Game (1999)

Pros: Beautifully shot, occasionally touching, Jena Malone in a supporting role
Cons: The love side of it is just okay.
For someone who doesn't watch very many sports, I sure do get a kick out of sports-related movies. Ever since the Twins, Rookie of the Year and Angels In The Outfield (which look about as much alike as Deep Impact and Armageddon) I just can't get enough. I probably got a little too anxious when I saw For Love Of The Game, saw the airbrushed cover, saw the year, and basically thought "Ohh, that's the year American Beauty was made! I wonder if...?" And maybe it was about time that I started watching adult sports movies anyway, instead of all those kiddie ones. But now I end up back at square...

Loving the Game, Loving His Mind

Pros: Cosner is Cosner, but his mind lasts when the character's body gives out.
Cons: Cosner's acting. Doesn't it ever change?
As part of the Multiple Intelligences class I took for my Ed.D, I decided to review this movie. But bare in mind, I watched the movie for a particularly reason (to determine the amount of multiple intelligences that are used in the movie); this, therefore, will not resemble an ordinary movie review. I hope you enjoy a different perspective on this excellent movie. American s love affair with baseball is legend. But how can one learn much about Multiple Intelligences from watching a movie about the sport? This was the researcher s first thought when viewing the movie For Love of the Game. The..

At the crossroads.... For Love Of The Game
Review created: 07/02/00
by: Lisa_J -- a member of Epinions
Pros: Believable Acting. Tactful Love Scenes.
Cons: Flashbacks might annoy some, but are presented well.
There are multiple reasons that I liked For Love of the Game. In this sports-meets-love theme movie, we witness the emotional exhaustion that is possible when people are faced with life changing decisions. Although the plot centers on choices faced within a pro-baseball career, I feel that the issues presented can by symbolic toward the career battles that professionals from varying employment stances face. ~*~Synopsis~*~ In For Love of the Game Billy Chapel (Kevin Costner) is faced with a tremendous tug-o-war; shall he pursue a love affair with Jane Aubrey (Kelly Preston), or aggressively...

Kevin Costner Hits a Foul Ball
Review created: 11/06/00
by: Grouch -- a member of Epinions
Pros: Good Director, Bad Movie
Cons: Costner and Preston read their lines like there's no life in the script....Hey, wait a minute! They're RIGHT!
The first time I saw For Love of the Game I didn t hear it. It was the afternoon Chicago-to-Seattle flight, I was shoehorned between two armrest hogs and I was contemplating the soggy turkey-and-cheese croissant with equal parts glee (fiddling with food! an airplane activity!) and horror (running to the lavatory to vomit! an airplane activity!). I swallowed the croissant bile, then tried hard to slip back into the novel I was reading. Armrest Hogs #1 and #2 made that difficult and every so often, I d have to come back from literary escapism to take a gulp of recycled oxygen. On one of those...
