Fly - Dixie Chicks (CD 1999)

Even though I have lived in the South all of my life, I've never enjoyed country music. That is, until the Dixie Chicks came along. I discovered the Dixie Chicks quite by accident. As most of you know, MTV and VH-1 have a hard time squeezing in music videos between all of those nifty new shows they have. The only music station that played MUSIC was CMT. So, I began to watch and heard "Wide Open Spaces." I loved it, but wasn't persuaded to buy the Fly Album (since I was still in the closet!) until I heard the song "Cowboy Take Me Away." After you get past the gimmicky, novelty aspect of their group name, you can come to the conclusion that these are some talented musicians. When I first heard the name Dixie Chicks, I expected a pretty lightweight musical outing. "But at least they're cute." thought I. I was in for a pleasant surprise when I listened to their first album. And I'll state up front that I think the second one is even better than the first. "Fly" is a darn good album. the opener "Ready to Run" gets things off to a good start. It's great to hear music like this getting so much airplay. It's impressive to hear..

Can one doubt that the Dixie Chicks currently rule the group scene in country music? With one hit after another, there was great anticipation of their second cd to see if their domination would continue. But the truth is that the second cd has given them a more solid domination of the charts. If there is a bad song on this cd, I haven't found it. With three monster singles already released from this cd, the sales are going through the ceiling. If anything, this cd is even better than the first.
