I really enjoyed this movie. The actors are well chosen, all play their parts great.
Dennis Quaid plays a pilot who has to pick up an oil rig team in the middle of the Gobi Desert. But things start to go wrong and he has to crash land in the desert. They hold out hope that someone will find them, but a mechanic believes he can design a new plane from the wreckage. They begin building it, but they have to be careful to ration the remaining food and water properly. They have to also deal with sandstorms and some murderous desert raiders along the way.
The cast is: Dennis Quaid, Tyrese Gibson, Miranda Otto, and Giovanni Ribisi.
A definite must have.

This movie isn't even as good at the SURVIVOR series, but would make a great backdrop for a future season. a dozen people are evacuated from an dry oil well and crash in the dessert. Soon they are all at each other's throats as the water starts to dry up and they have no way out except to build a plane from the wreckage. For some reason that description sounds a lot better than what the movie turned out to be. All in all it was a so-so made for TV movie with lackluster performances. You just wanted to punch the plane designer the whole way through.

with James Stewart, In my opinion is still the best of the two, but this one
is still a good movie, well worth seeing. If they made the original Flight of the Phoenix in blue ray I would get that one too.

Excellent redux of a classicFlight of the Phoenix 2006 is different from the original in the use of computer graphic and more "realistic action" scenes. The basic survival theme remains. Both are worth owning and any detailed comparison would be akin to comparing the 1930's Robin Hood with Kevin Costner's Robin Hood. Different techmology, different director/producer and different perceptions of audience expectation. Seing one version will not spoil watching the other.

I have seen the previews for Flight of the Phoenix at the theater several times now. I thought the movie would be interesting based on the previews and decided that I wanted to see it. This movie is a remake of a Jimmy Stewart movie. I only found that out recently. Kelly was in charge of a crew trying to strike oil in the Mongolian desert. Flight of the Phoenix is a rather predictable movie. It gives you exactly what you expect without many surprises. That's not generally a good thing, but in this case it works. Flight of the Phoenix is a remake of a Jimmy Stewart movie that I've never seen. This movie is bombing horribly at the box office because you don't need to see it if you already saw the preview. In the trailer, we know the plane crashes. We know they fight amongst themselves. We know they attempt and succeed at building a new plane out of the old plane parts.
